Chapter 16: Choosing Hope

As the three ran through the corridors leading to the garage, they made it over to a black royal escort vehicle. Lunafreya strapped Phoebe in the back seat and gave her the ring of the lucii, afraid she may lose it.

"Hold onto this, sweetheart." She stroked her head as she closed the door and got in the passenger seat.

"I'm scared mama.." Phoebe whimpered as she placed the ring in her pocket.

"We all are, Phoebe. You have to be strong alright?" Lunafreya looked back at her as Nyx started the car and sped out of the garage.

"How you holding up back there kid?" Nyx asked as he drove the car.

"Scared..Tired.." Phoebe sniffled.

Nyx remained silent as the car sped through the highways.

"What about you Nyx?" Lunafreya asked.

"Ashley..meant the world to me."

"She was your lover, was she not?"

"She was. There was nobody else like her. She fought to protect the king right till the end." Nyx sighed as he turned on the APB that showed the headline: "Insomnia Under Attack".

"Ulric to command, come in captain." Nyx tried contacting Drautos but got nothing but silence.

"Footage of the perpetrators was captured by a nearby surveillance camera. Here are images of the six suspects. One has been identified as Galahdian refugee: Libertus Ostium, a former member of the Lucian Kingsglaive." The APB reported, Nyx was unable to believe what he was hearing.

In the Lucian courtyard, one of the refugee's Libertus had teamed up with going by the name of Pruvia, lay dying behind a flipped car as Libertus arrived, kneeling down and holding him in his arms.

"Hey! Come here, come here! I got you, I got you. It's okay, You're alright." Libertus said, trying to keep Pruvia calm and from going into shock from his wounds.

"It's fine. We're free. We're free now." Pruvia spoke up with a smile.

"We're free? what do you mean "We're free"?"

"The Empire. They promised..This districts ours. All the refugees..it's our new home."

"The Empire? You went in with Niflheim?!" Libertus gasped in disbelief at what he was hearing as his comrade gave him a radio that showed some co-orinates: "16 02 189".

"Here. Take this. Meet up with the others. You're the hero of our revelation brother."

Libertus was in utter shock, he had no idea what his comrades were up to, all he knew was that he had no choice but to try to help Nyx protect the princesses.

"Hang in there Nyx, Ash. I'll come help you out." Libertus promised, completely unaware that Ashley was killed.

Back on the highway, Nyx hit the wheel of the car and snarled. "Dammit!"

Just as Lunafreya was about to speak, Phoebe screamed and ducked as an airship shot at them.

"It's an airship!" Phoebe screamed, looking out the window briefly.

"Luna, can you drive?!" Nyx asked.

"I can try!" Lunafreya nodded as she took the wheel and Nyx made his way into the backseat.

"I'll be right back!" Nyx nodded as he open the door and threw his dagger into the ships wall but didn't warp to it. "What in the--?!"

"No warping for you this time hero!" Tredd, a former member of the Kingsglaive, taunted Nyx as he took the dagger.
