Chapter 10: The Journey Begins

Ardyn had left the Citadel by the sun had set and he made his return to the Empire and Regis made his way to his sons bedroom. While the empire had a plan, Regis had a plan of his own. Prince Noctis had just passed his 20th birthday and was laying on his bed, relaxing and playing on his phone when he heard a knock on his door.

"Come in." He called from beyond his door and his father entered. "Hey dad."

"Noctis. We need to talk." Regis closed the door behind him as he spoke in his lecture voice which made Noctis tense up.

"A-About what?" he stuttered, he hated the tone his father used as it usually meant he was in big trouble.

Noctis sat up and allowed his dad to sit down on his bed.

"Noct, I need to you be honest with me."

"Okay." Noctis nodded as he put his phone down, turning off his game.

"Did you know? About Luna?" Regis asked, hoping Noctis would click on.

Immediately Noctis knew what he meant but played dumb. "I-I don't know what you mean dad."

"Phoebe."

With that name mentioned..Noctis sat frozen in place like a naughty child being placed on the naughty step for the first time. With a sigh Noctis then sat beside his father and had a sincere tone in his voice.

"Dad, i'm sorry I didn't tell you..but I had to keep her a secret."

"Why?"

"It was for Pheobe's protection..she shouldn't be caught up in the war. She's just a child."

"I would have preferred it if you told me."

"That's the thing..had I told you, you would have sent a glaive to go bring her to Lucis." Noctis explained. "She's safer with Luna. Than she is with us, as strange as it sounds."

"I see. So you thought ahead..well, I can understand now but..we still need to talk about something else."

"Whats that?"

"You must get an early night tonight for tomorrow you will leave Insomnia and head for Altissia." Regis explained.

Noctis raised a brow, confused.

"You are to be wed, son."

Noctis, alarmed by the reveal of his arranged marriage, sat with his mouth gaping. "What?! to who?!"

"Inside voice, Noct." Regis lectured. "I raised you better than that."

"Sorry. To who?"

"Lunafreya."

"To Luna? why?"

"It is part of a peace treat between our kingdom and Niflheim. They will take control of all Lucian territories but..you and Luna are to meet far from Insomnia. I will send you to Altissia with 3 companions of your choosing."

"Right. I understand." Noctis nodded.

"Who do you wish to do with you?"

Noctis went silent for moment then looked to his dad. "Ignis, Gladio and Prompto." He said, trusting the 3 of them more than anything.

"Alright, I shall contact them tonight. You get some rest."

"Thanks dad."

A few hours pass before the sun had completely set and the darkness of night swallowed the land as a glaive joined his friends for dinner in the marketplace. This glaive was none other than Nyx Ulric, a hero within the Kingsglaive ranks.
