Chapter 21: Hidden in plain sight

After the boys left the diner they went and met up with Cindy who greeted them with a wave and a smile. "Sorry about the wait. ain't she purdy?" she grinned happily.

"She's almost too pretty for the road" Gladiolus remarked with a smile.

"she's back!" Prompto cheered. "We should all get a picture with her!" He then gave his camera to Cindy and posed with his friends in front of the regalia as she took the photo and gave his camera back to him

"All the more reason to ride with care. now, before I forget, would y'all mind making a little delivery for me?" Cindy asked as Noctis thought about it for a moment then nodded.

"Of course, you helped us, so we'll help you."

"Perfect! thought you'd say yes so I already put it in the trunk. there should be a motel on your way to galdin, if y'all wouldn't mind giving that to the owner, that'd be swell."

with a sigh and a chuckle, Noctis gave an amused smile. "Grandpa like Grandkid."

Ignis proceeded to then get in the drivers seat as the others got inside. Prompto riding shotgun and Noctis with Gladiolus in the back as they soon set off towards Galdin Quay and being sure to stop at the motel on the way. By this time of course, the sun was high in the afternoon sky. Once they arrived Gladiolus got out of the car and went to the trunk of the car and gave it to the owner.

"Y'all came all the way our here to deliver the goods? well, thank ya kindly." the Owner smiled. "We'll be sure to let Hammerhead know we got the package."

"Awesome, see you later man." Gladiolus smiled but as her turned around the boys all heard an all to familiar bark.

"Umbra!" Noctis smiled and knelt down, petting his canine friend.

"Bringing us stuff! Attaboy!" Prompto praised the pup before them.

"That dog can really track a scent." Gladiolus remarked, surprised.

"Certainly nose how to find us." Ignis smirked, making a pun causing the boys to shoot him a glare.

"That pun sucked iggy." Noctis let out a chuckle as he retrieved a book from his canine companion. "now, just a sec." he said as he closed his eyes and thought back on his memories with his betrothed.

Flashback

12 years earlier

"Nice flower." A young Noctis smiled as he looked in the book with a young Lunafreya.

"It's the same kind we sowed our crowns from." she smiled.

"Oh yeah! sylleblossoms!" Noctis smiled as they both closed the book.

Silence then filled the air around the, making Lunafreya nervous until she broke the silence. "so.."

This breaking of the silence grabbed Noctis' attention. "hmm?"

"I have a favour to ask. Take the notebook with you when you go."

"oh? sure." He smiled at her request.

"That's not all..i want you to put something in the book and send it back. Umbra will ferry the book between us."

"Sure, okay!"

Flashback ends

Sheepishly, Noctis looked around and then read Lunafreya's message.

The message in the book read as follows; "The time has come for Phoebe and I to leave Tenebrae. I have never seen her so excited." and Noctis thought for a moment and responded. "I can't wait to see you both. It's been too long since we last met Luna." after he finished writing he closed the book and gave it to Umbra who ran off. "All set, take care out there."
