Wally's Motel, Derry, Maine
Wednesday May 8th 1990
10:24amRichie awoke, rolling over to his side, seeing Steve still asleep. He looked at the clock that hung over the table in between the two beds. Everyone was at school. It was almost lunch and Richie believed he could probably go to the school and see the losers.
He got up and tapped Steve on the shoulder, causing him to groan.
"Yeah?" He asked, his voice full of sleep.
"I'm gonna go to the diner."
"Not by yourself."
"Steve, you're treating me like a child."
"Because you are."
"Well, then are you gonna get your lazy ass up?"
"Yeah, yeah, just give me a minute..."
Richie rolled his eyes, sitting back on the bed.
-
As twelve o'clock rolled around, Steve was still asleep. Richie laid in the bed watching TV. He decided that either he was going with or without Steve. He shook him and began to wake him up.
"Steve, I want to go to the school to see Eddie, are you coming?"
"What?" Steve mumbled.
"Jesus, fuck. Steven, I'm leaving, are you coming?"
Steve rolled over, sitting up on the bed.
"Yeah, yeah. Let's go."
Steve was still dressed in his clothes from yesterday, so he didn't worry himself with changing. He picked up his sunglasses from off the nightstand and walked out the door, Richie following.
They both got in his car and began to drive to the only middle school in Derry.
-
They pulled up and saw children flooding the grounds, Richie and Steve hoped out of the car and began to walk over to the field.
"You're going with me?" Richie asked.
"Duh."
"This is embarrassing."
"You're embarrassing..." Steve voice was full of tiredness.
As they walked through the fields, they got a bunch of looks. But Richie didn't care, instead he kept searching for Eddie or one of his friends.
"Excuse me? Sir?" An old women asked from behind them.
"Yeah?" Steve asked, turning around to face her.
"Hi, I'm one of the lunch supervisors. Um, I don't think your supposed to be here..."
"No worries, ma'am. We are supposed to be here." Richie smiled, eyes still wandering.
"Are you sure? He looks to old to be here." She asked, pointing to Steve.
Richie looked around while Steve tried to convince the woman that they were allowed on the school grounds. He then spotted Beverly's fiery red locks. He grabbed Steve by the arm and dragged him over to the bleachers where Beverly and everyone else sat.
"That was rude!" The woman yelled.
"Did you find them?" Steve asked.
"Yeah." Richie stopped in front of the bleachers, causing all the eyes to go onto him.
"Richie?" Eddie mumbled. "What are you doing here?"
"Who's that?" Ben asked, setting his book down.
