2530 Maple Street, Hawkins, Indiana
Thursday July 4th 1990
4:32 pmThe block was crowded with plastic tables and families. Each table held various foods prepared by loving or not loving mothers, the teens sat on the Wheelers lawn, a few food and drinks. They viewed how most homes had outdoor activities on their front grasses for children.
"What is this?" Will asked, looking at the green chunky blob of food that sat on Beverly's red paper plate.
"I don't know, I thought it was jell-o." She replied, poking it with her plastic fork.
"Yeah, cuz jell-o looks like that, right?" Stanley rolled his eyes.
"Shut up!" She yelled.
"It looks mouldy, almost." Eddie mentioned, looking at the green goo.
"I'll try it." Richie suggested.
"Ew, what if that's expired?" Jane asked, pure disgust washed over her face.
Richie picked up Beverly's fork, taking a god portion of the unappetizing food. He placed it in his mouth, chewing the chunks and tasting apple.
"Just as I suspected," he began, before getting another fork full. "It's Joan's homemade apple jell-o."
"I told you it was jell-o!" Beverly yelled at Stanley. "Is it good?" She asked.
"Yeah." He shrugged.
He got a bit more on his fork, looking over at Eddie and holding the fork in front of him. "Open up." He smiled.
"Ew, no! You're mouth was on that!"
"Sharing the same fork is the most grossest thing you've done, ain't it?" Stanley sarcastically said, winking.
"Fuck you." Eddie sent a glare towards him, opening his mouth as Richie placed the fork inside.
Eddie tasted all the flavours, grimacing at the apples. "It's good I guess. Too chunky though." He said after swallowing.
"Do they have any good food over there?" Jane asked.
"Its p-prepared by middle a-aged moms. Could b-be." Bill shrugged.
"Well, I'll go check." She stood up. "Anyone comin'?" She asked.
"I'll go!" Lucas yelled, following her. He only agreed because he knew that Mary Riggins made homemade apple pie.
"If you find anything good, tell me!" Ben yelled, eyeing everyone's plates.
"This doesn't make ya hungry, haystack?" Richie asked, pointing Eddie's not fully mashed mashed potatoes.
"Not one bit."
"When is something fun gonna happen?" Stanley groaned, laying back onto Bill's legs.
"Not till around eight." Ben sighed, remembering what was said on a pamphlet.
"Can't we go around and play with what's on the lawn?" Will asked.
"Will, those things are for the children. The only people able to get into those with out concern looks, are you and Eddie." Mike (W) mentioned, eating a bun without anything on.
"I'm not that small!" Eddie yelled.
"Me either!" Will agreed.
"Plus, there's nothing fun out there." Dustin mentioned.
"There's a bouncy castle." Richie pointed.
"You guys a-are stupid, these m-moms wouldn't let u-us near anything t-that has their c-children." Bill said.
