Chapter 1
Annie's POV
I hate having two opposite emotions at once, they cause a mental tornado. One good, one bad, they chase each other around and give you an aching headache. I was thrilled at the thought if having a baby. Then I was full of sadness and anger when Alexa left me the message she did.
Finnick or my baby? Are you kidding?
Everyone knows what Finnick wants me to do if we don't win. Let her take him. But at the same time, I can't give him away, and I can't hold a baby in my arms and give him or her away either.
I love my baby, and I love my Finnick. And getting rid of one or the other is like choosing how you die. You don't want to.
I walk over to the phone.
"Who are you calling?" Finnick asks, angry tears still filling his eyes.
I dial her number.
"Annie, who are you calling?"
I click the button to call.
"Made your decision already? You still have another eight months and two weeks."
"Let my baby and Finnick stay here, and I'll go with you. You can win. I won't be happy I'll be dead." Tears stream down my face but they don't make a sound.
"Annie get off the phone-"
"Interesting proposal, but sister, if I wanted family I wouldn't do this. I just want a husband, or a child, I never asked for a sister. You have less than nine months. Tick tock." And she hangs up.
I cry in frustration.
"Annie you can't do that! She could've said yes, she could've taken you." Finnick's crying and he's holding me close. "You can't do that to me."
"Yeah and you can't do this to me. You can't expect me to let her have you. You can't think I'll be able to live with myself because I won't. I won't." He looks at me, we both feel so weak, so vulnerable. "I can't live without you."
"Don't worry Annie," he kisses me. "You'll never have to."

"Paylor, yeah it's Finnick. I need you to do something about Alexa Cresta. Yes, she is related to Annie. She's actually her sister, and she's threatening us. She wants to kidnap our unborn child or me. Yeah, I know, it's just not good for Annie. She's having a hard time with this and she's scared, and I'm upset and if she comes near my family I'll kill her. So unless you wanna deal with a murder, I suggest you find her and put her in jail." He rolls his eyes. "We have proof on our phone! On our voicemail. Yes, fine, send your people over to investigate whatever. As long as she's gone one way or the other. Okay, goodbye."
"They'll be over?"
"Two days," I nod. "Annie don't worry about it, we will get her. We won't lose."
"I just don't even know how to feel, happy or sad. Angry or overjoyed, because I don't feel any of them. I just feel like I'm completely empty. That my life is going to be ripped away from me one way or the other. If I choose you I'm a horrible mother, if I choose the baby, I'm a horrible wife, best friend, and person in general. I just could never decide."
"Annie if it comes down to those two decisions, you have to choose the baby. Think about it, who has a better chance at beating Alexa? Me or a newborn baby?"
"You,"
"So if we have to choose, you're going to choose our baby. And I swear I'll kill her and come right back to you."
"Okay," I say. "But promise me one thing, promise me that no matter what happens I won't have to raise our baby alone."
He nods, "I promise."
