Chapter 4

Maggie's POV

I have to go back today and it's totally bittersweet. I get to see my mom, my dad, my brother, sister in law, and niece and nephew, and my beautiful district. But I leave my perfect boyfriend behind. I love him with every piece of me and I know this is what mom and dad have. They have the strongest love anyone has ever seen. And that's how I feel with him. That's how I feel with Darius Mellark. And I never want to leave that feeling, that person behind.

"Could I call and see if you can come over?" I ask.

"Let me go check," he asks Katniss and Peeta.

"No longer than a week, Darius. We have plans to go see our friend Johanna,"

"Oh I remember Johanna. She's awesome," I say.

"Maggie you can come if you want."

"Um, sure, okay. Let me give my parents a call."

I dial with Katniss and Peeta's phone, it rings a few times before someone answers.

"Finnick! Knock it off, it's Katniss and Peeta's number." My mom says.

He laughs, "Fine, fine."

"Annie here,"

"Hey mom, it's me."

"Oh! Hey lovely, coming home today?"

"Yeah, just wondering if Darius could tag along. Katniss and Peeta invited us to go see Aunt Johanna with them in a week."

"Okay, sure. And there's uh, something we have to talk about, kinda serious, so hopefully having Darius here might be a little help to you."

"Mom, you're not like, sick right?"

She gives a sad laugh, "no honey, no. We'll explain when you get here."

"Mom, you and dad aren't breaking up right?"

"Oh god no Maggie! Why would you even think that?"

"I don't know, the midnight fights how about that for a reason?! I have ears you know?"

"Maggie, I can promise you we're done with that. In fact, we've been so happy together lately,"

"Mom, are you..."

"See you later Maggie! Bye." Click.

Wow. I didn't even get to ask my last question. But I'll get to ask her when we get back.

"Dare! Go pack." He smiles and runs upstairs.

Annie's POV.

I wasn't going to tell my daughter over the phone that I'm pregnant! And I know for a fact that was her next question. And it's certainly going to be hard explaining the Alexa situation. Maggie is a very smart girl, she'll piece together that Finnick was involved, and she might hold a grudge against him, or blame him, and he'll take it to heart. And even though he never should've spent time with her while he was in the Capitol, this isn't because of him. This was her plan all along and he sorta fell for it.

"Finn, Maggie is coming home, she'll be here soon and we have to tell her about... The current situation."

"Annie, do you want our daughter to hate me?"

"Finn, she's not gonna hate you. This isn't your fault, Alexa set up a trap and you fell for it."

"Be sure to explain that to her,"

"She won't hate you,"

"Yeah, she will. She'll think this is all my fault, because it is a lot of my fault and she'll never want to talk to me again."

"Don't be so dramatic, she'll always talk to you and you just have to stop being negative."

"Okay, okay, I just love the relationship I have with Maggie and I don't want this stupid mistake of mine to hurt it."

"It won't Finn, it won't."

"Mom!" I hear Maggie's voice beaming through the house.

I run over and hug her, and Darius too.

"Have fun?" I ask.

She nods, "Where's Dad?"

Finnick opens her arms and she runs over and says something to him that makes him look like he's gonna cry, but he's Finnick. So he doesn't.

"So what is it that you wouldn't tell me on the phone?" She asks.

I sadly smile, not now. I can't tell her. But I have to, and I will.

"Maggie, lets uh, lets sit down." Finnick says.

"Um... Okay..." She sits down.

"Do you, need me to leave?" Darius asks.

"No, no, that's okay." I say. "You can stay if you want,"

Maggie looks at him, and he nods, takes her hand and sits with her.

"There's good news and bad news, and the bad news unfortunately effects the good news," Finnick starts.

"What's the good news?" Maggie asks, she sighs and takes a deep breath, Darius squeezes her hand comforting her.

"I'm gonna have a baby," I smile.

"Mom, that's great." She smiles, she gets up and hugs me and dad. "But what's the bad news? How does it effect the baby?"

"I have a sister," Maggie looks so confused. "And she has sent us a threat, and she wants to take the baby, or your dad."

Her eyes fill with tears, "Why?"

"She wants a family and even though we reached out to her, she is selfish and we are working on the details to make sure your mom doesn't have to give one of us up."

"Even if she does come, doesn't mean you have to give up either of them!" Maggie says. "There's nothing say you have to give one or the other up."

"It's not that simple," Finnick says.

"It sounds pretty simple! Why can't you just not give her what she wants?! Am I the only one who doesn't think it's that hard?!" No one says anything, and what she's saying makes it sound simple, but we both know Alexa won't stop till she has one or the other. "Darius you think I'm right, right?"

"Maggie, I agree with what you're saying, but there must be more or Finnick and Annie would've already done what you're suggesting."

"Then what other pieces am I missing?" She asks.

"If she doesn't get one, she'll hurt someone." I tell her.

"Who?"

"We don't know, Maggie. We don't know."
