Chapter 5
Maggie's POV.
How many new things happened when I was gone?! Geez!
"How are you going to stop her?" I ask.
"Like I said, we have the president and her employees involved so we should be able to lock her up before she can even continue the threats and other nonsense." Dad says.
"Oh, but what if they don't do anything?" I ask.
"We're going to figure it out Maggie, we promise, okay?"
"I don't want a lie! I want the truth, I want to know how serious this situation is and what I can do to help both of you."
"You can't do anything and we aren't going to let you. You're our daughter too and we don't want you getting hurt." Dad says.
"I won't get hurt! But if we just sit back and let her do this then you will, or my new baby brother or sister."
"Maggie, please just let us handle this." Mom says.
"No. You're going to let me help. With the biggest task or the smallest."
They don't say anything, probably because I am right.
The home phone rings and I walk over there, I need a break from this entire conversation.
"Hello?"
"So cute, little Mags things she can stop me."
"Who is this?!" The line goes dead.
"Who was it?" Mom asks.
"I... I don't know." I say.
"What did they say?" Dad asks.
"She said I can't stop her."
"Oh my god, Maggie, that was Alexa." Mom says.
"Why is she doing this?"
"Because she wants family-"
"No, there has to be some other explination. I know there is." They don't say anything. "Where did she go?"
"The Capitol,"
"Now she's in District Two."
"I feel like theres more about her that involves one of you and you're not telling me." I say.
"Finnick, I think it's time she knows." Mom says.
He frowns, "Okay."
~~~~
"So you dated this girl?!" I ask.
"I never dated her," Dad says.
"But you at least had a crush on her even though you were dating Mom!" I yell.
"Maggie, don't," Darius tries to calm me down.
"Darius please don't make me upset with you too," He nods. "Why would you even do this?"
"I was alone Maggie, I was alone and depressed and needed someone to be there for me when your mom wasn't and it's not her fault that she wasn't there I was just so alone."
"So you couldn't fight off any temptation at all?"
"Maggie you don't understand!"
"Oh I understand Dad, I understand that there's a possibilty that if you never spent any time with her, she wouldn't be doing this now."
"Maggie," Mom says.
"Come on, Mom. You know I'm right."
"Maggie, even if you are, they never were a couple, just friends. They didn't date and you know that. You're upset just like us which is why you're finding someone to blame."
"No. You don't get it because you love him so much and he's so so perfect."
"Maggie, that's enough. He's your dad, he didn't mean for any of this to happen."
"Whatever you say mom, clearly you're too blind to realize the truth. The truth being two words. He cheated."
And with that I storm away, Darius follows me as I walk outside.
"Maggie, I'm sure your dad would never cheat-"
"Dare," tears fill my eyes. "Please don't try to comfort me when you even know he probably cheated."
He frowns and nods. "It's gonna be alright Maggie,"
"I love you Dare. You're the only positive thing in my life right now."
"You are my life Maggie."
~~~~
"I swear she did leave a message," Mom is panicking.
Paylor's people are here, and the message was erased. Who would do that? Only one person, but how would she get in our locked house.
"We can check your history," One of the guys says, he pulls out a computer thing and opens our phone's messages and scans through. "There's none from anyone marked as 'unknown'. I'm sorry, but if we don't have proof we can't do anything."
"She's going to do something horrible unless we stop her now," Dad says.
"I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do."
"Nothing you can do?!" I yell. "When have either of my parents lied? Isn't it easy to believe they're harassed? Plenty of people are jealous of them and the life they have together, so why is it so hard for you to believe someone threatened them?"
"Without proof you can't press charges, and if you can't press charges you can't put them in jail."
"Well you're the suckiest employee Paylor's got-"
"Okay, Mags, lets go to the beach while they talk."
Darius picks me up.
Jerk.
I hate these idiots that don't understand what's going on. If someone is being threatened it's their job to put that person behind bars.
We're totally screwed now.
