check·mate /ˈCHekˌmāt/ noun CHESS 1. a check from which a king cannot escape.
(So, I got the idea as I always was interested in having the readers make decisions for characters, but never knew what to do so I pictured a chess/checker's board where each move can potentially lose a piece or take a piece and at the end of a chess game the objective is checkmate)
(So yeah, the easier route would be to make a decision tree but that would mean one wrong move would conclude the story, this way I gave people chances to redeem themselves)
(I was too nice, there were like five instances where I almost ended it because you all made the 'wrong' decision but I gave everyone a chance, so I made the last decision for real with this one)
(Oh and I got bored writing this story :P Some scrap ideas
Just portions of a chapter that I would have eventually expanded on if I decided to keep them
I start with an idea which could be dialogue or a phrase or a reference etc... and then find a way to incorporate a question/decision as well as it flowing from the previous question/decision
Which shows as with the bailey date chapter I kept most of it the same as my idea for that chapter was separate from that outcome

It was poetry time for presentation day
And with the recent events Kaycee was really looking forward to this day to air out her feelings
And the whole class did too
Tahani and Julian went already making it Josh's turn
"We're running out of time so Josh will finish today's and we'll continue the rest tomorrow" the teacher said "so those of you lucky not to make a poem you have another day"
"Thank goodness" Bailey said as everyone laughed" I forgot"
Josh went and everyone commented on how this was directed to a specific person
"Ones man trash is another mans treasure, one mans pain is another mans pleasure" Josh said "You might not be the one but you're the one I desire"
"Very good Josh" the teacher said "let's work out your grade"
"Oh my God that poem was for you Kaycee!" Tahani said
"What?! No!" Kaycee said
"Yeah the treasure was because Sean dismissed you" Julian said
"I did not!" Sean said
"Pain and pleasure is about Gabe hurting Kaycee which could be his prize" Tahani said
"I think we're stretching it" Kaycee said
"And the last one is because you never saw Josh that way but he's saying he wants you oh my gosh it's true" Bailey said "Man I'll never get him!"
"So whatcha going to do Kayc" Sean said
"Well I-"
"What's up everyone? Why are you all whispering?" Josh said rejoining the group
"Josh how does Kaycee look today?" Julian asked
"Great, as usual of course" Josh said
"Josh..." Kaycee started
(Should Kaycee confront Josh about the poem or should she just ignore it as if it wasn't about her)
So yeah I had ideas, some were repurposed in other chapters and but most was because I ended not liking the idea or I felt the story went long enough as stuff like Josh-Kaycee stuff would have just delayed the inevitable
