"Lola honey, I'm going out. Are you okay with Mommy or do you want me to call Uncle Den and Auntie Lee?" I said softly, moving a stray piece of hair away from her doll-like face.

Lola rolled over in the bed we shared, the mattress squeaking. She pulled the thin cloth, poor excuse for a blanket, around her, her tiny body shivering. I lightly kicked a beer bottle that sat on the floor at the door of the closet sized room, a few flies scurrying away from where it landed.

"Where are you going?" She questioned, rubbing her eyes and sitting up.
"I'm gonna go see Cyrus, then maybe go to the spoon with Amber." Amber is our older sister who lives with her dad, we don't see her very much so it's special when we do.
"I wanna see Cy and Amber!" Lola whined, lightly tapping my arm repeatedly.
"Cy hasn't been feeling to good, I don't want you getting sick. I'll come back to get you when I go see Amber. Do you want to go hang with Lee at her daycare while I'm gone?" She shook her said softly, lying back down.
"No, I'm okay." I ran my fingers through her blonde waves softly, watching as her eyes closed again.
"Okay. Bye sweetie, I'll see you later." I kiss her forehead, walking out of the small room.

As I walked I picked up beer bottles and empty cigarette boxes, picking up after my shit show of a mother. I got into my living room that connected to a small kitchen, rolling my eyes at my mom. Janet Cabello, my wonderful mother, was passed out of the couch. She had a half empty beer bottle in one hand and a lit cigarette in the other.

"Hey crack head, wake the hell up." I said, throwing a pillow at her head. She groaned, dropping the cigarette which I managed to put out with my sneaker.
"The fuck, asshole?" She mumbled, sitting up and rubbing her eyes.
"I'm going out. Can I trust you to look after Lola while I'm gone?" She sipped her beer, standing and walking to the kitchen.
"Trust me? She's my kid, incase you forgot." My mom remarked, pulling a hot pocket out of our refrigerator. I scoffed at her, grabbing car keys off of the kitchen counter.
"She's more like my kid, if you ask me. Or anyone else, really. But, I'm leaving. If I get back and she's hurt in any way, you're dead." I turned to leave, but my mother had more words.
"Where are you going?" I huffed, turning around.

I know what she's going to say. I know how she's going to react. The truth is, mom hates Cyrus. She believes he is corrupting me and putting wild ideas in my head. The lovely ideas that boys can like boys. The ideas that boys can wear makeup and dress up. The ideas that I can be who I want to be.

"I'm going to Cyrus's place. Might chill there for a bit. Then I'm coming back to get Lola and go hang with Amber." She scoffed, pressing microwave buttons.
"You wanna hang out with the homo and your step devil's child?"
"What is your problem? Can I not go out to eat with my fucking sister?" She laughed.
"That little skank isn't your sister. Lola is your sister. That man didn't give me you."
"That doesn't matter. He gave you Lola. He gave you Amber. I have the same last name as her. She's my sister. We grew up together. So what if I'm your one night stand child? That doesn't make me any less their brother. And if your logic is that I'm not related to her because we don't have the same father, then that also means Lola isn't my sister."
"It's different and you know that, baby."
"Yeah, whatever. See you later."

I left me house, slamming me front door shut. Sometimes, it's better for me to stay quiet. I mean, no one listens to me anyway. When people look at me, all they see if a boy. A boy who hates everyone and everything for no reason other than to be an asshole. What they don't see is my pain.

I don't really know how pain works. Most of the time, it feels like a dagger in to heart. I guess that's emotional pain, or something like that. I'm not too smart when it comes to feelings and emotions. You see, I bottle them all up inside and eventually I reach my breaking point.
