Dream slowly walked into the kitchen, he could only guess that Cross was there... He looked in all the other places that he could think of...
And there he was, happily baking pancakes and frying some bacon.
"C-Cross?" The yellow guardian kept his voice soft, gentle really, but it caused the other to give a soft yelp, spinning around to face the other.
Wide fearful eyes faced those of concerned yellow.
"H-Hello... W-Who ar-are you?" The white wearing monster's voice was childish, calm but frightened... It was softer and more innocent than anything the small guardian had ever heard!
"I-I'm Dream... Nightmare's twin brother..." There was a pause, both of them waiting for the other to do or say something.
"D-Do... Do you need anything?" Swiftly the taller skeleton turned back to the food. He felt so uncertain with the other, scared really... He didn't want to be alone with them...
"Yes... Yes, I want to know... How did you and my brother... get to the way you two are... now?" Hesitation was in his voice, uncertainty in his being.
It honestly was rare that Dream felt hesitant or uncertain about things, but... He was hesitant on this matter as he really didn't want to hurt the other, nor did he want to be hurt too.
"Oh... We-Well, whenever I get hurt from training, he'd take care of me. Letting me rest, sometimes he'd even let me sleep with him!" Cross had gained some confidence in his voice, it being light with happiness. "He keeps the nightmares at bay... Well, they're not really nightmares... They're actually just really bad memories... Nightmare says that it'll all make sense once I remember everything!" The white wearing monster turned towards the other, his blissful smile falling as concern took over.
"Is something wrong, Cross?" The yellow wearing skeleton took a cautious step forward.
"He always looks so sad... Whenever he mentions me remembering everything, he looks so sad... He looks so guilty and lonely... But accepting... Like when I remember, I would hate him, and he's just... Going to accept that, like he deserves that! But, he doesn't! I don't want to remember if it means that I'll hate him! He's too kind and sweet, understanding and helpful! He encourages me and protects me whenever I need it! I don't want to loose him!" Tears were quickly falling from his eyes, his knees collapsing onto the floor.
He didn't want to leave Nightmare... He didn't want to make his King upset or sad of any kind! He wanted to stay with him, in his big and warm arms, where it was safe! He wanted to stay with him! If getting his memories meant that he had to leave Nightmare, then he rather not remember anything at all! He rather stay the way he was now!
"Cross, snowflake... Sshh..." A dark aura, an aura of misery and terror surrounded the shaking body, two strong and warm arms encircling the smaller. "Sshh... I'm here, I'm here..."
Cross buried his face into Nightmare's chest, still sobbing.
The taller brother glared at his twin, yet his eyes showed sorrow and pain... The type of pain when one knew what their loved one was thinking and simply wished not to... The type of pain that one shouldn't ever feel...
Dream felt his throat close up and his chest become heavy. He thought it wasn't possible, that his twin was just waiting for his loyal servant to get his memories back... But it was true... Nightmare loved Cross, he loved him so much that his abuse towards the other had finally caught up with him... He's guilty of loving something he no longer had the right to hold...
And the yellow guardian had no chance of loving the other from the beginning.
