You checked the clock again, he was late.
Your son was curled up beside you in a small ball. He had his head rested in your lap. You gently ran your fingers through his hair before picking him up and moving him so he rested his head on your shoulder. You leaned back and let your eyes close. Hoping that you'd hear Lotor coming in.
When you woke up the next morning you looked at the clock beside you noticed it was almost 5 in the morning. You gently moved your son and made sure he was covered up and made your way to the bedroom. The door opened and you saw Lotor getting dressed for work again.
"When did you get home?" You asked crossing your arms.
"Well, it was pretty late. Around 2?" He said putting on his shoes.
"Do you know what yesterday was?" You asked.
"Yeah, I had that big meeting with-"
"No," you interrupted. "It was our sons birthday."
"No, that's next week."
"No, it was yesterday. He stayed up wondering where his father was. I thought maybe you were running late and I told him that when he wakes up you'd be there to wish him happy birthday. You never did." You tried to control your voice, you didn't want your son to wake to arguing.
You were trying to hide your shaking by crossing your arms but it was hard. You were honestly flabbergasted at the fact that he remembered anniversaries and your birthdays perfectly, but when it came your son he didn't remember a damn thing. You had a sneaking suspicion it was because it wasn't truely his son, but you weren't going to accuse him of that.
"I'm sorry that I forgot, I'll make it up to him when I get home. I'll make sure to come home early." He promised standing up walking into the bathroom.
"Wake him up and apologize before you go. Because if you don't I'm going to tell him the truth." You snapped turning to leave.
You heard his footsteps so you turned to see him pull his toothbrush out of his mouth, "and what would the truth be?"
"That you forgot and got his birthday completely wrong."
"I've been so busy, he'll understand."
"No, because I will not let you give him excuses. I don't want him to think excuses are acceptable."
"I'll tell him before I leave. Get out of here, you're going to make me late." He said turning to head back into the bathroom.
You groan and leave. your son was still sleeping on the couch. He looked so peaceful. You brush the hair from his face and smile.
"Mama?" He asked.
"Yeah?"
"Is father home?" He sat up and rubbed his face.
"Yeah, he'll be in here to wish you happy birthday before he leaves for work." He nodded and got up and went to the kitchen. You sigh and sit down. He came back with two glasses of milk.
"Here, Mama."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." He sat on the couch next to you when you both heard an alarm blare.
You sigh and take a sip as Lotor rushed past you both shouting goodbye over his shoulder. The door closed behind him and you sighed. Why did I think he'd do it? You asked yourself, but you couldn't be very upset at him. He had to get out there.
He poked his head back in and shouted happy birthday and slammed the door back. You looked to your son and noticed the smile he had on his face, how cute.
Let me know what you think!
