~Shawn Mends_ No Promises~

Steam filled the small room. The water ran down my body, quickly soaking my hair.
"Staring out my hotel window,
To much on my mind
Maybe we should keep it simple
We don't have to decide" I slowly started.I grabbed my shampoo, washing it into my hair, as I sang a little louder.
"Oh no, we don't need to overcomplicate it
Cause I've been here just before don't even say it.""Baby please no promises!" sang a mâle voice.
I smiled and step back under the water to wash off the soap.
"Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh" I joined.
"Cause we don't keep our promises!"
"Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh"
"And you know the consequences..."
"So baby please, baby please no promises!" we sang along.
A knock on the door made me jump.
"Em! Hurry up, diner's ready!" shouted my little sister.
"Coming!" I answered.
I turned the water off and grabbed a towel. I stepped out of the shower, quickly drying myself before putting my PJ's on. They were pale blue with little sunflowers. I combed through my brown hair but left it wet, dripping down my back.
I left the bathroom, and my shower duet partner still singing.>>>▪<<<
I followed the wonderful smell of chicken pie through to the kitchen. Harper was already at the table, serving herself. I sat down opposite her and unfolded my napkin.
"My badminton team won today. 31 to 23!" annouced Harper.
"Don't speak with your mouthfull!"
"Well done" said mum as she sat down. "How did your test go today honey?" she asked me.
"It went... alright."
"You don't sound sure."
"Well it was maths..."
"I got an 18 on my maths test" mocked my sister.
Just like a kid, I stook my tongue out at her.
"Emily."
"Hum?" I answred, my mouth filled with carottes.
"I'll be late home tomorrow..."
"Do you won't me to prepare diner?" I cut.
"Yes please but I also need you to go to the post office before it closes."
"No probleme."
She cut up the pastery, surved it out and I tucked into to my second round.
"Your father also called today. He would like you to spend the next holidays with him."
Harper and I looked at each other.
Since mum and dad split up we have rarely seen him. Not that we don't want to but he stayed in New Mexico when mum moved to Georgia with us..."I'd love to!" my sister answered.
I cringed. It's not that I don't want to but I can't... Well I could if I really wanted to...
"Emily?"
"I have a couple of games during the holidays" I tried.
"How many games are a couple?" smiled Harper, innocently.
"A couple!" I glared.
Only two actually, I thought.
"It's fine" said mum with an understanding smile "I'll tell your father and arrange for you to get there" she said to my sibling.
We ate in silence for a moment. I hoped that dad wasn't going to take it badly. I just really didn't feel like going. But what about him? He hasn't seen you in 3 months... You wouldn't want to hurt his feelings, would you? I shut my subconscious out and tried not to feel guilty.
"Mum?" asked Harper.
She was looking down at her plate, playing with her food.
"Yes?"
"Sophie's organizing a party at her place on Friday and I was wondering if I could go."
"Who else will be there?"
"Everyone. Well most of my school year" she corrected as she saw our mother's look.
"Will her parents be there?"
"Yes?"
"Hum hum."
Harper shoot me a warning glance and I ended up trying to cover up my laugh.
"Ok but you'll have to sleep over."
"Really?" she asked shook.
Mum nodded and she spent the rest of the evening with a huge grin on her face.
