The Prey

Chapter 8

                                                           Skye's POV

  I put the finishing touches on the cake with seven minutes to spare. As I added Happy Birthday, Skyler walked in. Her face lit up looking to the cake.

  "You have outdone yourself this year Skye its beautiful." She said with a giant grin on her face. I went to the sink to wash my hands when Mark, Grace, Brett and his brother walked in. His brother was glaring at me. Well it served him right. I only feel slightly guilty for punching him.

  "What happened to the broke nose I gave you?" I asked. I wouldn't have if it didn't look like it was never broken.

  "Perks of being a werewolf" he said with a sinister smirk on his ever so handsome face. "We heal quick" with that he walked outside.

  "Well let me talk to the girls alone for a moment" Grace said and all the men left outside. "I wanted to let you know a few things before you shift. I will hurt and it will be the most excruciating pain you have ever felt. It will only hurt your first shift after that it will be much easier. Now lets go outside to the woods its almost time." she smiled at us.

  I was terrified of shifting, I didn't want to shift at all. I looked at Skyler and she was slightly pale with a frown on her face. We grabbed each others hands and followed Grace. I was shaking. We didn't get very far before I felt my leg snap I fell down screaming in pain. Skyler was right behind me. All you could hear in the silence of night was our screams. My other leg snapped out and I now had tears rolling down my face.  I tried to reach out and grab Skyler's hand when my arm snapped they felt like they where reshaping. I was starting to see black dots.

  At a certain point I passed out into oblivion.  I don't know how long I was out.  When I woke up the pain was gone. I looked over to Skyler and my jaw dropped well what I think would be my jaw. I knew we both looked the same. She had red fur with yellow on the tip if her left ear and on two paws. I started looking around and noticed how much more clearly everything looked. 

  "Hello, I'm Rain" I heard in my head. I jumped looking around for whoever just said that.

   "Your wolves have woken" Grace smiled. "They can now talk with you. Why don't you girls go behind the trees and I will bring you both some close.

  "Mom" Brett said "Can we take the girls on a run first?"

  "Of course" she said. "I will go grab them some clothes." She wondered off. The breeze picked back up and I caught the most wonderful smell. Pine and acorns almost like the air freshener I use, Cashmere Woods. A howl went of in my head "Mate" Rain said. "What no I don't want a mate" I screamed back. She kept telling me to turn around but I refused. "No way in hell am I ready for a mate" I said as I tried to run off.

   Now one would think walking and running of four legs would be a walk in the park. Oh hell no, no sooner did I take off was I falling and eating the dirt. I heard a wonderfully deep chuckle but I still wasn't going to turn around. I got to my feet and started to walk one foot at a time and I still fell. I was getting up when a grey wolf ran right by me. I stood back up just in time to look  the wolf in the face. The grey eyes told me it was one of the twins. I was trapped in those eyes sucked into the grey mist of them and we just stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity but really was only a few moments. He turned and walk away. 

   "Follow our mate" Rain begged. I just turned and walked away. I no longer felt like trying to run I just wanted to go into my room and sleep. As I made my way to the house Grace came out with clothes. 

   "Go behind a tree and think of what you felt like being human and you will shift back." She said with a smile. I nodded my head and took the clothes with me as I clumsily made my way behind a tree. I took me forever to finally shift back. If I am being completely honest I was scared it would hurt again, but it didn't. I quickly got dressed and started making my way home. When someone grabbed me from behind. The electricity that coursed down my arm was terrifying yet thrilling. I was turned around to look at Brett's brother who was frowning at me

   "I Jaxon Marsh reject you Skye Morgan as my mate and future Luna" He said before he walked out of the woods leaving me to dumbly stare after him with a horrible pain in my chest that left my wolf howling in pain.

  What the hell just happened I thought to myself as I walked out of the woods and towards the house. My heart feeling like it was ripped in two.

                                                 Grace's POV

   Now that the girls have shifted we just had to wait for their powers to manifest. I made my way to the office to make two very important phone calls. I closed and locked the door then went behind the desk. I had to let them know.

   "Hello" She answered 

   "Hello Sally its Grace" I replied. "They have shifted, you have permission to come onto our land now." 

    "Wonderful I will be there in two days" She said and hung up the phone. 

   I dial the next number I desperately needed to call. This one always terrified me.

 She answered the phone "I will be there tomorrow Grace" And hung up.
