Breakfast is great. I almost forgot the feeling of an early bird. This summer break I usually wake up around noontime.
Today is Serene's first day of college and she must be really nervous right now. I remember the first time that I went to college.
I thought the first day was just going to be an introductory or something else, but it's literally the first day of classes. Like typical classes.
That day I was only carrying powder, toothbrush, toothpaste, money, and a single pen inside my bag.
It took me a lot of courage to ask for a sheet of paper, an index card, or whatever stuff we needed on that particular day to my classmates.
I already warned Serene about it and I know she'll be fine, she'll do great, I know it.
But my first day of college wasn't that bad. I met Ryan when we both applied for the University of Southern California, he also majors the same course. He is so nice to me at that time, and a dork as well. We've been taking the same classes, and we're inseparable. I found the whole situation lovely and I eventually had feelings for him.
Right after dinner, Serene decided to tag along with me instead of taking the bus because she can't drive. "We'll go now!" I yelled and mom came out from the kitchen and give the both of us a tight hug.
"Study hard." She smiles. "Good luck on your first day." She adds as she looks at Serene.
While they were at the momentum of being a mother and a daughter, I slid my hand inside my bag to reach my phone as soon as I felt that it is vibrating.
I'm on my way to school. See you there!
I beam at Ryan's message, he must be excited as I am. This time we're gonna spend the whole day together and I bet that it's gonna be fun.
We hit the road too early and lucky for us that we have avoided the rush hour.
Once we enter the parking lot of the University of Southern California, a lot of people are already swarming around.
Probably freshmen. My subconscious assumes. "Here we are," I tell her enthusiastically. "Just call me if you need any help." I give her a warm smile and she returns one to me.
We both hop out of the car, and as soon as I notice that she's slowly getting further away from the parking lot, I switch directions and head to the campus' main gate.
I'm here. Where are you?
I messaged Ryan. Desperately hoping that no one recognizes me.
That would be easy, it's not like I'm some sort of a prep student here.
The red car.
As soon as I read Ryan's message I dart my eyes towards the outside of the gate and look for a red car.
Across the road, near an enormous tree, a red car is parking underneath its shades.
I look at my left and right before crossing the road and when I am already sure that no vehicles are going to pass by the second I cross the road, I start moving to the opposite side of the road.
Not until a 2019 Chevrolet Corvette came out of nowhere, making me jump in surprise, making me fall down on my butt in the middle of the road.
I yelp in pain and try to stand up but I just couldn't. I can already hear a lot of vehicles beeping their horns and I'm causing traffic.
