Chapter 18
“Life is unfair. Cruel. But without a challenge, life is not worth the risk.” –– Dylan Chapel
It’s more unnerving that she is staring at me. Her followers are being held back, unable to move from the silver in their system that burns them with writhing agony. Her eyes are the same as they always have been. A warm chocolate brown that is always welcoming to any soul. I know I should be numb to this, being with Cassidy Aspel. She is her exact image, even her beauty is closer than I would have expected from the comparison between human and immortal.
Her cries swim through me, like blood in a vein, pulsing warm and strong. I don’t like seeing her like this. I thought Cassidy was going to kill her quickly. Get it done. Well, let me get it done quickly. That is what she said. That I could kill her, so why isn’t she letting me doing it. I should be worried about my brother, I guess. He is my brother after all. And I love him. He is all my family.
I can feel one of the brother’s stares on me. Not the boyfriend. The other one. The taller one. He isn’t moving or blinking. Just staring at me with the highest rate of hatred yet, as if no one else is in the room.
But the boyfriend. He is going insane from seeing Cassidy torture her human doppelgänger. He’s trying to fight against the silver, but the more he fights it, the more gets injected into his system, making him weaker and weaker, but he’s not paying his attention to the silver destroying his insides while Cassidy destroys this human.
She’s kneeling down in the floor, clutching her stomach tight, drowned in her own blood. God, there is so much blood and this is so satisfying for Cassidy which makes me wonder why she would give me the honors of killing Skailar Ventierros.
Skailar’s body is racked with sobs, but they turn into screams as Cassidy inflicts more pain upon her already too weak body. She is leaning over, coughing up blood with only jeans. From her waist above, she is practically completely bare which is why she has her arms crossing over her bare chest. Her hair is hanging on the sides of her face, and is long enough to hang on the ground as well, dripped with blood. It’s not like I want her to die, but I couldn’t really have much emotion in this, since Cassidy tells me not to and, being with this new immortal mind, I can’t find my feelings.
It is as if someone has flipped an off switch and has thrown away any feeling of emotion away, leaving them battered and lost. If I had the choice, I would stop the torture and just kill her. Just get it over with instead of listening to her screeches of unbearable pain.
There is only a certain amount of pain the human body can take, and through all the torture I have witnessed through humans, Skailar has got to be one of the strongest humans I know. Though this makes her incredibly heroic for holding up so long, she is being quite idiot as well; she is just giving Cassidy reasons to keep going with the pain which I know she wants he to stop doing.
But all she has to do is beg her to kill her, but she won’t. She is determined to push through; it seems like it and has no intention of giving in to her.
Though all the boyfriend is doing is begging Cassidy to stop torturing his girlfriend, or telling her to replace her with him. To do anything but hurt Skailar.
I haven’t said anything yet, just watched the gruesome act.
There are cuts all over Skailar’s back, covering the scars that were on her back already. Not just her back. The cuts are all over the place, shedding so much blood, and already has a ruptured organ, setting off enough pain as it is. Her right hand is broken, and four fingers of her left are broken with completely shattered bones. Just with the ruptured spleen, she has internal bleeding and then with the severely deep cuts?
