Chapter Ten: Fûtbol Juego (Soccer Game)
-
I pull on shorts and a sports bra, a light shirt over top. I am so excited for the soccer game! We had challenged the boys because with pranks comes sports. It'll just boost our winning streak.
We had slept with excitement for the soccer game last night.
I put on running shoes before tying my hair in a ponytail. Gosh, I love Saturdays.
We had a select amount of girls who wanted to play, perfect for a team with a few subs. I grab a water bottle from the fridge before gathering up the girls playing.
We walk to the soccer field on campus. Luckily not being used. We choose a side and set our stuff down behind the net before we start stretching. After a while we jog laps around the field. That's when the boys show up.
We go onto our half, in one big group in the centre. The boys come and their 'team captain', Alex, stands in front of their group. I move so I'm standing in front of my group. Izzy stands beside me.
"So, us girls want a clean game. Absolutely no body contact." I inform Alex.
Alex nods. "Seems fair, we'll go easy on you."
I snort and Izzy jumps in. "We won't be going easy on you. And by the way... Our team is no shirts." Izzy smirks and the girls strip their shirts off to their sports bras. Me being shy, but not wanting the be the only one with a shirt, slide my shirt off embarrassed.
We get a lot of stares but we turn and jog back to our side, throwing our shirts on the ground. We get into our spots, Izzy in net. I'm centre mid.
The boys set themselves up, and like that, we start.
First thing I notice, boys are going easy. They're trying their hardest not to knock us down. Fine, I'll show them we aren't as fragile as we look. I glance at the boy with the ball, running towards me. I smirk and run straight at him, I can see he expects me to dodge out of the way. But I ain't doing none of that. Instead, as I turn to kick the ball, I also ram myself into him. My shoulder connecting with his chest. He flies back and I take the ball up.
I look around quickly at my players and pass to Ricky who is free. I run up to the net and she does a perfect cross to me and I tip it in. I laugh and run back to my end, high-fiving my team mates.
"That's how a girl does it." I wink at the guys.
And so the game goes on.
Girls end up winning, four to three. I had stayed on the field the whole time, and now? I'm dying. I collapse in the field, like many of the girls have, and breathe heavily.
Alex walks over and sit beside me, a water bottle in his hand.
"You alright?" Alex asks. Instead of replying I nod. "You want a drink?" He asks, holding up his water bottle.
Needing the water I reach out for his water bottle and take it. I open it and hold it over my mouth, taking a big gulp before handing it back.
"Thanks." I mumble.
"No problem." Alex smiles. I don't return the smile, knowing I'll get attached again. Pushing him away is hard.
I glance over at Ricky and Izzy, Zoë didn't come because she went to visit her parents. They're smirking and whispering to each other, pointing at me... And Alex.
I sigh and turn back to Alex. "I have to go, I'll see you around." I say quietly, getting up and walking to pick up my shirt and water bottle. I leave the field and walk to the dorms where I shower and put on comfy clothes.
With that I have a lazy day, watching movies, eating junk and going on the internet.
And at all costs, I avoid Alex.
