Chapter Three: Playa Problema (Beach Problem)
-
The next two weeks there's no news from Alex. No texts, no calls, no visits to Starbucks. I sigh, he's probably already forgotten about me.
I sit in my dorm, eating Smartfood and watching a movie on my laptop when my phone dings and I look at it.
ALEX/ Hey! It's Alex!
I scramble to get my phone. I pick it up and I text back mad fast.
ARYA/ Hey!
ALEX/ How's it going?
ARYA/ Pretty good... Hold on.
I pause my movie and I call Alex.
"Was texting not enough?" Alex laughs when he answers.
I giggle. "I feel like we're Hazel and Augustus from The Fault In Our Stars right now."
"Okay." Alex says.
"Okay." I reply.
We pause before laughing.
"Maybe okay will be our always." Alex quotes.
"Okay." I smile.
"No. Okay will not be our always." Alex laughs.
"Really?" I whine.
"Really." Alex replies.
"Really." I sigh.
"Maybe really will be our okay, our always." Alex says.
I laugh. "Oh Alex."
"So, what's you favourite book? And you can't choose The Fault In Our Stars." Alex says.
"Hmm, I'd have to go with Immortal City or Divergent."
"I've never read Immortal City."
"I really feel like The Fault In Our Stars now, I mean, Augustus gives a book for Hazel to read and Hazel gives a book for Augustus to read."
"Really?"
"Really."
"I'm going to hang out with some friends... I'll talk to you later Arya."
"¡Adiós!" I say.
Alex laughs. "Is it Spanish that you're speaking?"
"Si." I smile even though he can't see me.
"I think it's cute." Alex says.
"Really?" I ask.
"Really. ¡Adiós chica!" Alex says before hanging up.
I giggle and hang up too. Goodbye girl... Interesting words. I call Izzy up.
"IZZY!" I squeal. "Alex and I just had a phone call!"
"Really!? Tell me everything!" Izzy exclaims.
I give her a recount on what transpired between Alex and I.
"Question, if you read, how do you not speak fluent English?" Izzy asks.
"I speak it... Fluently. Just words are often hard to pronounce." I say, struggling on pronouncing pronounce properly... So ironic.
Izzy laughs. "Dance class is in fifteen minutes. I'm getting ready, see you there!" She says.
I put on my dancing clothes and I walk off to the dance studio.
I stretch quickly before joining the girls going over our dance.
During the class we work our asses off, dancing hard. Izzy and I are paired together and we have to make up a dance.
We do an amazing dance and then every girl is assigned boy partners.
"You and your partner has to make up a dance, but you have to dance together at least once." The teacher instructs.
"My name's Justin." My partner says.
"Arya." I smile. "You know belly dancing? I have a way for us to mix a few dancing types together..." I say.
"Let's see it." Justin smiles.
We make a boss ass dance. We present before it's time to leave.
"You're a good dancing partner." I smile at Justin.
"You too, see you next class!" Justin waves.
Izzy walks up to me. "Why do you get all the hot boys?" She whines.
I laugh and shrug.
"Maybe it's that Spanish accent of yours! I'll need to attempt to copy it..."
"Every time you say beach it comes out bitch." I say.
Izzy bursts into laughter. "Say beach again."
"Beach." I sigh.
Izzy laughs her ass off.
"That's gold!" Izzy says.
I roll my eyes.
"Can you even go to the beach here?" I ask.
Izzy cracks up again. "No." She answers.
"I have to get ready for my shift, I'll see you later." I say.
"See you! Maybe I'll drop by." Izzy says.
I walk to my dorm and get ready. I walk to work and put my apron on. I walk to the counter to take my first costumer.
I'm bored out of my mind soon enough. I'm putting the closed sign up when Alex walks in.
"We're closed." I say.
"One drink? For me?" Alex asks.
I roll my eyes and walk behind the counter.
"Iced coffee please." Alex smiles.
I make it and hand it to him. I make myself a chocolate frappe and take two cookies out, handing one to him.
We sit at a table.
"Are you in charge of closing up tonight?" Alex asks.
"Yep." I nod, biting into my cookie.
"So, tell me, what's your favourite movie?" Alex asks leaning back in his chair.
"Uh, I like Pitch Perfect and The Mortal Instruments City of Bones and... I could list a bunch, I don't have a favourite."
Alex laughs. "My favourite is Lord of The Rings."
"Ooh! Those movies are awesome!"
"I know."
"What's your favourite music genre?" I ask curiously, finishing my cookie.
"I don't like music all that music." Alex shrugs.
I clench my hands into fists.
"Out." I snap.
"Woah, what?"
"Out. Leave, now." I all but growl.
"What did I do? Was it something I said?"
"Go!" I point at the door and refrain from yelling as best I can.
Alex looks at me sadly before gathering his things and walking out. I sigh and sweep up the floor before shutting the lights off and locking up.
I walk to my dorm and sit in bed. How can one not like music? The idea sickens me.
Alex's mind is disturbed. I decide as I fall asleep.
