Chapter Fourteen: Sorprender Hermana (Surprise Sister)
-
The girls and I went shopping in the small shops. While we were walking, Izzy decided to explain a movie called A Monster In Paris.
She described it as quite an emotional movie, and I found I really wanted to watch it. A kids movie or not.
Then Ricky decided to bring up how Paris was the city of love.
"So much romance here, it's so... So perfect!" Ricky sighs dreamily.
I laugh at her. "Oh, totally." I roll my eyes.
"Like you and Alex... Oh I know!" Zoë exclaims.
"What?" Izzy asks, as we all turn to look at her.
"Alex and Arya should put a lock on the bridge of love locks!" Zoë announces.
Now this is a place of Paris I knew, and dreamed about as a little girl. The bridge of locks. Pont des Arts. Across the River Seine. I always dreamed of going there with my husband and locking a padlock and throwing the key into the water.
But I knew that wouldn't happen. Some dreams just don't come true.
I make my way into a store that catches my eyes. It's a jewelry store, and let me tell you, I was never one to wear much jewelry. Earrings hurt my ears, so I only wore them when I absolutely had to. Necklaces always got caught in my hair. Rings made my fingers hurt. So normally I'd only wear a bracelet.
And there was one bracelet here that was perfect. It might not look like much to anyone else, but for me? I loved it. The bracelet was plain silver coloured metal band with a single word charm on it. Love.
It was beautiful, and my kind of style.
The other girls walked in behind me and went to look at jewelry for themselves. Laughing at silly looking ones, and explaining what looked best on each of them. I smile and move to join in.
I laugh as Zoë makes a face at a rather ugly necklace. "That's an... unusual necklace." Are the words Zoë opts for, which makes us all laugh.
We end up with a few bags each at the end of our shopping trip.
I went back to my dorm and was sitting inside, pondering over what to do when my phone rang.
"Hello?" I answer, not checking to see who the caller is.
"Hola Arya." Adrian replies.
I smile widely, even though he can't see. "What brings you to calling?"
"Go open your front door for your dorms." Adrian instructs.
"Okay...?" I walk downstairs, and open the door, and standing there is Adrian.
I squeal and wrap my arms around him tightly. He's here! He's here in Paris with me!
Adrian wraps his arms around my waist and spins me in a circle before kissing my forehead.
"I've missed you little sis!" Adrian laughs.
"I missed you too hermano." I say brother in Spanish.
"I take it you'll be excited to know I'm taking my third and last year of college here." Adrian smirks.
"NO WAY!?" I scream.
"Yes way!" Adrian laughs.
I hug Adrian as tightly as I can.
I glance out and notice Alex watching us with pained eyes. I frown at him, what's wrong with him?
"Hey, Adrian, I want you to meet someone." I say, pulling away from the hug. I grab Adrian's hand and drag him to Alex. "Alex meet my brother Adrian, Adrian meet Alex."
"Nice to meet you," Adrian grins, sticking his hand out.
Alex shakes it and visibly relaxes, the pain in his eyes gone. He shakes Adrian's hand. "You as well."
I smile at the two of them and Adrian laughs, ruffling my hair. "Arya, I do have to go unpack. I'll see you later." Adrian explains.
"Adios hermano." I smile.
"Adios hermana." Adrian smiles back, kissing my forehead again before walking off.
"Hermano? Hermana?" Alex asks.
"Brother. Sister." I translate.
"Ah." Alex nods.
"So, how was the studying?"
"Good, I guess."
I nod and look him over, tilting my head. He had combed his hair... I walk over and run my hands through it, giving him his normal messy look.
Alex raises an eyebrow, "better?"
"Yes," I smile. Alex laughs and puts his hands on my waist, butterflies erupt in my stomach. "Why did you look pained before?"
"Oh, it was nothing." Alex says, putting his forehead to mine.
"Okay."
"Are you free Friday night?" He smiles.
"Yes," I say slowly.
"Would you like to go on a date with me?"
I smile, "yes!"
"Then it's settled. Meet me at the fountain, Friday night, at five." Alex says.
"And what should I wear?"
"Something fancy."
"Well, I guess I'll meet you there Superman." I smile, turning to walk away.
"I'll be counting the days Lois Lane!" Alex replies, walking away as well.
I giggle involuntarily, super excited to tell the girls about our date!
