Annoying Orange
Anthony gripped a white sheet of paper in his fist with an uneasy look on his face. A knock on the office door was heard on the wooden surface and Anthony welcomed the newcomer in. Kathy slipped herself in between the corridors and closed the door, taking a seat across the desk from her boss.
“Mr. Gonzales has invited us to go to San Diego for a special showcase.” Kathy sits back in the black leather chair and cross her legs. Anthony kept his eyes stuck on the invitation card in front of him with a nod.
“Book us a flight of three for tomorrow morning.” Anthony demands looking at the names listed on the paper and Kathy smiles to herself writing down the information on her notepad. She walked outside followed by Anthony to Adrian’s office. Adrian welcomed Anthony in with a smile and they both sat on the black couch together.
“So you heard about the invitation right?” Anthony clarifies and Adrian took a deep breath before answering.
“Yeah.” Adrian bit the inside of his cheek and move in his seat comfortably. Anthony looks over at his friend uneasily,
“You don’t need to go.” Anthony announces, “Stay with Chloe.” He pats Adrian’s shoulder and stand up; about to leave the office. Adrian stood up and bit his lower lip.
“See you at the airport tomorrow morning.” Adrian declares. He has thought it over already, if he wanted his kids to live in a good family with great insurance and wealth then he needs to be promoted and well known in this career. He must be competent.
Anthony turns around in shock to see Adrian with a firm look on his face. “Are you sure?” Adrian glides his hand inside his pockets and nodded sadly. He didn’t want to leave Chloe, but he had to for the benefits of their future. Anthony saw his friend deep in reverie so he closed the door slowly and went to his own place, thinking of Jamie.
Gabriel closes his eyes, walking out of court and ripped off the wig off his head in distress. This wasn’t the first case that he lost…he has failed his client…again. He walks into his van and took a stroll in the freeway with the radio on; his mind can’t stop thinking about his ability to prosecute his client. Did he believe in himself when he carried out his argument? Did he try his best? Were they really guilty? Gabriel runs his finger through his hair in agony. Gabriel stopped to the side of the freeway and climb off his car and look beyond the green grass that flows to the side with the wind. He closes his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to clear his mind and ease his agitation. Why can’t he be like his wife and win every case? All that he could think of right now is how he failed his client horribly. Should he just find a new job? Gabriel locked his jaw and opened his eyes again to face the blue sky above his head. Then he got a phone call and picked up the phone from an unknown number.
“Hello, this is the principal of Crystal Crown Elementary.”
Gabriel froze. Did Lissette get hurt? Why is she calling…all bad thoughts of his daughter runs through his mind like a speed of light. “Is there something wrong with Lissette?”
“Please come right away and pick your daughter up.” The principal’s infuriated voice rang in his ear and hung up. What the hell was that? Come pick your daughter up…he mimicked her voice in his mind.
13 minutes…
Lissette and Gabriel walked side by side, exiting the school gate quietly. Lissette has her pink back pack strapped on her shoulders securely with her arms dangling on the side of her body. Gabriel bit the side of his cheek and sighed, he didn’t want to talk to Lissette right now.
“Daddy, can we go buy tuice?” Lissette raises her head to take a look at Gabriel’s emotionless face.
Gabriel stares down at his daughter and sighed, “Let’s go.” He took her tiny hand into his and walks across the street to a small store. Lissette happily jumps to the fridges that line up against the wall. She opens up one door, letting the cool air out and grabs two bottles of topica juice. Then she walks to up to her dad, throwing the bottles of juice into his arm. Gabriel shook his head slowly and took the bottles to the cashier and paid for the juice. After that, they went to the closest park to the store and wander the place in complete silent. Everywhere Lissette looks, there were kids her age running around excitedly with their moms and dad. Why isn’t her dad talking to her? Is he mad at her? Lissette uncaps her juice and drank a tiny bit of the liquid but didn’t have the taste for anymore when she sees how depressed her dad was. Gabriel took a seat on one of the benches near the playground and drops his head down to his lap. Lissette puts her bottle down next to her seat and mirrored her dad. She too, was sad because of how her friends were acting towards her in school, why are they being so mean? What did she ever do to them? Why was she always their victim? Suddenly a thought hit her and her head shot up.
