Ch.4 Stranger In My House

" You're choice wasn't so bad after all, Val ! " Scarlett said. 

" Stop it ! You liked the movie" Val punched scarlett's shoulder playfully.

"let's be honest, I did like it . It was so romantic ! I wish I live such a love story" Scarlett sighed.

"Didn't you feel the same way with Adam ? I mean, You were together for years .. " Val wondered.

" Unfortunately... no ! No matter how hard I tried to develop feelings for him, I found out we're not meant to be together eventually ! I wasn't the one who can make him happy either!! " Scarlett said.

" Well . Stop being dramatic .. You deserve love and I'm sure you'll find it .. a girl like you can make anybody fall for her I believe " Val said smiling.

Scarlett hugged Val .. Val looked into Scarlett's eyes a bit longer than usual holding her hand before Val looked down faking a smile " let's walk you home ! "

Scarlett said goodbye to her friend and headed home because after such a long day she needs to sleep deeply.

While Scarlet was looking for her keys .. she saw a black car in front of her house! and the lights were on ! she wondered if they ever had a visitor that late ! It was 10 pm already ! 

Without thinking much, Scarlett opened the door " Mum, I'm home" taking off her jacket .

She stepped slowly to find her mum in the kitchen making tea ! " Hey scarlett , want tea ?"

" Okay, mum ! Do we have a visitor ?, I just noticed an unfamiliar car outside . Don't tell me it's Uncle Tom again , ugh! "

" No, Scarlett .. it's not uncle Tom .. It's a friend of mine ! I didn't talk to you about her cause you we didn't talk much lately ..She's a new neighbor by the way ! Her name's Tiffany .. We met at the supermarket 2 weeks ago .. Come say hello if you want"

Scarlett felt bored and sorry for asking about the visitor cause she just wanted to sleep not spending much time with strangers especially she has work tomorrow ..                                                   Scarlett found no harm if she said Hi and then she can disappear in her bedroom !

as she stepped out of the kitchen, her phone buzzed , It was Adam texting her , " I can't lose you after all , call me if you're not asleep ! " She wasn't in the mood for talking to Adam after everything she felt guilty, sad and fed up .. at least not tonight !

Scarlett stood there paralyzed not saying a word, She didn't see the visitor's face but the view was familiar , Same blond hair , high heels and soft hands .. it was her.. The woman from another century. 

Scarlett coughed softly announcing her presence .. " Hello , Tiffany , right ?! I heard we're neighbors now ... 

She sat down as Tiffany was looking closely at her. Scarlett felt something that she's never felt before .. something in Tiffany's eyes says a lot . something she can't explain. Those magical blue eyes like the ocean .. 

Scarlett looked away and she felt like she landed on earth again..

"Scarlett is my daughter , she's a teacher . " Her mother introduced her briefly.

Scarlett noticed a ring in her left hand .. She's married .. but why is she always alone ? Scarlett felt dumb .. it's non of her business..

 " Excuse me! enjoy your time .. I'm going to sleep .. I'm looking forward to meeting you again .. "

" I know we will meet again " Tiffany looked at Scarlett the same way as before and smiled .. Scarlett felt exposed , she hasn't met anyone who can see into her eyes like open door .. though she liked it.

The alarm rang loudly .. It was 6 am already .. Scarlett scratched her head optimistic for the first time in a while .. she took a shower , got dressed up .. walking out of her room to find her mum standing there .. " Good morning , Are you okay ? " Scarlett said.

"Yes , I was going to wake you up .. I made you coffee as you like it .. " Her mum said smiling.

Scarlett felt so happy that her mum still cares for her.. She spent years trying to make her mum feel okay after her dad's death .. but her mum kept herself away from anyone and from everything .. Scarlett felt happy that her mum started making friends again , and now she cares about Scarlett.. " It's a progress "

" Thanks mum . You don't know how much I need it " Scarlet said hugging her mum. 

" how much you needed coffee ? " her mum asked. Scarlet smiled " thanks for everything "  .. 

Scarlett drove her car to the school .. she was a bit late today .. but she didn't care .. she felt that everything is under control not knowing why .. but she felt strong unlike the past 2 days ..

Time passed quickly and it's 4 already .. she checked her phone seeing Adam's text from last night .. How could she forget to call him all day?! .. 

" Hey .. I'm sorry I was asleep last night when you texted me .. is everything alright ? " 

" I'm fine .. I'm at work now .. can I see you at 7? . I Missed you " Adam said.

"Okay , I'll see you at 7 . "Scarlet hung up feeling ready to meet Adam as grown ups .. no drama involved .. She took a deep breath and went to the library, She still has 3 hours.

She's not a bookworm but she likes to read from time to time .. so she stepped inside looking around .. Scarlet picked a book seemed interesting .. It was about space.. When she was a kid she wanted to be an astronaut .. when she grew up she read about astronauts like she's one of them. It's a sort of escapism from dark memories she had since she was a kid.. she also believes in time traveling .. a little bit nerdy .. but all that was " Scarlett ".

 She headed home to change and waited for Adam to show up watching TV with her mum.. 

" Randa called from Tokyo today .. She's coming back this weekend " Her mum said.

" Well .. I really miss her so much .. I'll pick her up from the airport then. " Scarlet said.      Her mum said : I know it's your life and I'm glad to see you happy. but you broke up with Adam right? "yes, and ?! " Scarlett said ..

" You're meeting him tonight and you look happy .. I mean I love to see you happy all the time but it's kind of confusing ! " her mum said

" It seems confusing .. but being with Adam doesn't have to mean we're in a relationship .. we're grown ups now and I think we still love each other but as friends.. He's still so special to me after all  " her phone buzzed .. it was Adam " I'm waiting outside "

"I'm going out .. bye mum " Scarlett closed the door meeting Adam in his Cadillac.
