Adrian slowly opened the door to their dorm and poked his head in, seeing Bailey lying in bed, throwing a coin in the air and catching it over and over, staring at the ceiling.

"Hey." Adrian said, and walked in, "You feeling alright?"

Bailey caught the coin in air and looked at Adrian, pondering his question. He furrowed his eyebrows and then looked back up at the ceiling, “I'm not quite sure.” he said, “I was just... Thinking. I've been thinking of it more and more recently, what life would've been like if my mother hadn't died or if my father were different.”

Adrian walked towards him slowly, “Yeah, life is full of ‘what if’s. But that's just how we live. Usually in the end everything turns out okay.”

Bailey hummed, “It would've been fun having experienced the past many years of my life like a normal human. Had friends for longer than just a few years in school, had a boyfriend.” he sighed, “I'm too broken for that now.”

“Nobody in this school has ever lived like a normal human being.” Adrian said, “The level of abnormality differs from person to person though. For example, I'm pretty normal, I guess. But I've been here for so long that I can't remember my other school. The only time I see my parents is over Christmas, and that too just sometimes, not every year. They don't even come for visiting day.”

Bailey gave Adrian a sympathetic smile, “I'm sorry.”

“No it's fine, really. They don't care about me and I couldn't care less about them. And I'm happy here, really. I'm captain of the football team and I have great friends.” Adrian said, I have you now, he thought, but didn't dare say it.

“Yeah.” Bailey said, “I guess my time here has been... Interesting. But it's alright now. In some ways I guess things are working out.” he chuckled a little, under his breath, and looked up at the ceiling, smiling, “I mean, I met you, didn't I? It's one of the only good things to happen to me.”

Adrian felt butterflies in his belly and turned red, smiling uncontrollably. He giggled, flattered, “You're so cute.” he kneeled by his bed, and Bailey turned onto his side, looking at him, “I'm so happy I was lucky enough to be your roommate.”

Bailey grinned, ruffling Adrian's hair, and Adrian took his hand and held it in his own, “Hey, by the way, sorry for being harsh this morning. I can be a little grumpy, specially if I oversleep.”

“It's fine. I can be annoying in the mornings too.” Bailey said, “And I was, this morning.”

“Well to make up for it.” Adrian said, picking up the bag of his purchases, “I got you a little something.”

“What is it?” Bailey asked excitedly, leaning forward and peaking into the bag, and freezing.

“Yeah, uh, Tristan helped me. And some Kyle dude helped him.” Adrian said, “I don't know how— how most of this works. So I guess you'll need Tristan to explain, or Google, I guess. But whenever you need or want the time to yourself, you'll get it. I'm willing to do anything.”

Bailey looked up from the bag to Adrian, his face burning red, his hands trembling a little. He felt his lip quiver and moved closer to Adrian, hugging him suddenly, “Thank you.” he sai whispered, “A million times, thank you.”

Adrian hugged him back, and smiled, “No problem.” he pulled away from the hug, his face still close to Bailey's, “Like I said, I'd... Do anything.” he ended breathily, his eyes going from Bailey's eyes to his lips, and he gulped, staring at him, not realising that they were both moving closer together.

He closed his eyes and felt there lips brush together, sending tingles down his spine, little sparks of fireworks beginning to go off in his head. His eyes opened slightly and he saw Bailey's eyes snap open wide, his eyebrows shooting up.
