Kill the Faceless! - part 1

Cyrus POV

I have to say, I expected more from the HQ of Night Raid. Seeing my disappointed look, Tatsumi explained that they were attacked not too long ago, and moved their base. it looked like a huge guild like building.

"This way." says Akame as she leads me through the halls.

I look down at my shackles, I don't see why they shackled me up, I could easily break out any time I wanted. but I played along.

on the way here they tried to take off my mask, but they failed miserably.

"this mask only can be taken off by the one wearing it." I told them back then. I would say the only one that's the least cautious around me would be Lubbock, who knows whys. Tatsumi gives me a quick glance every once in awhile. and Akame gives gives me a death glare every time I try to ask a question.

the next door opens into a diner hall, a huge diner table went across the room, filled with chairs. this must be where they eat dinner and stuff, I thought as I was told to take a seat.

I sit and wait patiently as Tatsumi goes to get their "boss".

Lubbock sits across of me and stares at me, inspecting me.

I sigh, "what is it?"

Lubbock tilts his head.

"why won't you show us your face? your our prisoner you know. and we probably won't let you run free since you know our faces and the location of our HQ." he said.

I look over at Akame, but she isn't paying attention.

"well... I have to fully feel like I can trust you before I do that." I said slowly.

just then, before Lubbock could say something else, the door swings open to reveal a tall and sturdy looking woman. her hair is cut short, and her right arm is metallic. she finishes her look with an eye patch.

she walks over to me and studies me, looking at my posture.

"w-what?" I ask hesitantly.

she thinks, rubbing her chin like an old man would rub his beard. then she walks back to the tables and steals Lubbocks seat. for awhile, we stare at each other in silence.

she suddenly asks.

"So, Cyrus, how do you make flames come out of thin air? and why won't you show us your face? Why we're you there at the villa, to kill members of Night Raid?" She said, dropping one question after another before I could answer.

I take a deep breath.

"I didn't even know your people would be there, I was only there because I was being paid to kill questions bad man." I said slowly.

she studies me more, then asks, "So you knew that this man was evil. Evil that had to be killed?"

I make a straight face. how was I supposed to answer to that? should I answer truthfully, or lie to her? but she seems like the type who would see that I'm lying. so I tell the truth.

"Yes. I tried to assassinate that man because he was evil." I said.

she didn't move but asked another question.

"why try to kill him when you could've just told the imperial police?" She asked.

I stare at her in the eye (her one good eye), where was she going with this?

"Evil like that has never been really punished. and a person like him who's close to the minister? He would've had me hunted down." I said.

"so your aware of this corrupted country?" She asked, her eye gleaned in the light.

"more than aware, I've lived in this country my whole life, well at least part of my life." I said.

there was a brief silence. and in that silence, someone else came into the room. he was tall, and had horns coming from his head, his hair was a dark charcoal color, and so we're his eyes.

the boss looked up at him and smiled.

"thank you for coming Susano. do you have what I requested?" She asked the tall man.

Susano nodded and then stood next to me. looks like he was here to be a body guard for their boss.

"What did you... request?" I asked out of curiosity.

she slowly smiled.

"oh nothing. just another job he was on. but that's not important, I want you to answer the other questions." she said.

I nod, "So you want to know what my Teigu is?" I asked.

The boss nods and waits, indicating that she wants to see it.

I scratch my head.

"well... it's not really an object, more of a part of me." I said, trying to explain.

The boss and Susano look at each other, then back at me.

"so, it's one of the Teigu that is attached to your body?" She asked.

I quickly nod.

"it's name?" She asked.

I sigh. "The Phoenix Blood. it was in a vital, a golden liquid that supposedly was Phoenix Blood. I injected myself with it and now... I'm like a living flame, I can't be burnt by flames and I also can make flames." I explained.

the boss stares at me, then says.

"So, we can't extract in from your body?" She asks.

just like I thought, they were after it. I should have known not to trust them.

"No. once it's inside the body, it stays inside the host until he composes an offspring." I said the last part while blushing, but they couldn't see it because of my mask.

she nods and whispers something into Susano's ear, and he leaves the room. Again, we are silent. until...

"I want you to show me your face, when everyone gets here."  she said.

I flinch and she saw.

"is there something wrong with your face?" She asks me.

I shake my head.

"I... don't like people seeing my face." I said.

As I say that, it seemed everyone in Night Raid suddenly came in. they all have their own look, their own lives and futures. they looks so much like a family of some sort.

"well... we're waiting, we'll wait as long as you want." The boss says into my ear so the others can't hear.

they all stared at me, either with smiles on their faces, or no expression at all.

...

Can I really trust them smiles?
