Cyrus POV

"What did you want to see me for?" I asked, my hands formally out behind my back. Boss wanted to see me in private, and it made me nervous on how serious she was.

I stand straight, watching the boss slide her hand across Pumpkin, which is on the table in the tent we set up. Underneath her eyes are swelled up, like she's been crying. Thinking of the boss crying was almost impossible for me.

She sighed, throwing pumpkin over her shoulder on its strap. She looks at me then tosses me a file, I glance over it, another mission. I look at her in question.

"I know, you just went through a battle two days ago when we were attacked, but I need your help on this one." She said, looking me in the eyes.

I blink. "Your going on a mission?"

She sighs. "We need more people, there's seven of us, not counting your friend."

I nod, understanding the situation. Going on a mission with Najenda would be... different.

She didn't say a word as she exits the tent and climbs onto the manta, me close behind her. Then I hear voices yelling for me. The others rush up to me.

"Where are you two going?!" Lubbock asked.

I shrug, I didn't really read the mission description well. Just another job, I guessed. I glance at boss, but she doesn't say anything.

"We're going on a job, I'll see you guys soon." I said with a small smile. The others didn't look convinced. Chelsea gave me the look that said, don't come back with bad news.

Tatsumi just gives me a small nod. He's adapted well since two days ago when Mine died. He even talked about it normally when we asked if he was okay or not. I recall what he said yesterday...

"Mine wouldn't want me wallowing in self pity and sadness. I'll find love again... just not right now at this moment." He said, smiling a bit.

He was right, we can't wallow in defeat now, it was time to strike back against the capital, without mercy. I jump into the saddle and snap the reins, waving a short goodbye as we took off into the air.

...

It's been two hours.

All Najenda told me to do was head west, past the capital. Where were we going? But I break the silence.

"Why are you taking me on this mission? Im guessing you want to talk about something?" I said, glancing back at her. She's sitting cross legged, her eyes closed. Her hair had grown out, and was now in a small braid like she had before I came. She looked up at me.

She sighed. "Yes... now's a good time as any... stand." She said, standing on both feet. I let go of the reins and stand before her.

We stared into each others eyes, her glare was burning right through me, but I didn't back down. Boss had a serious look on.

"I don't think I'm suited to lead them." She said under her breath. I'm properly surprised, that she'd say this to me. I thought she'd talk to Lubbock about this stuff.

"Of course you are... your the one who-"

"Started this? Yes... I did start Night Raid. But look at where I led these... children. My family is half dead now... all because I didn't see the enemy coming every time!" She started to yell in anger, hitting herself in her forehead.

"Don't think that! Your a great leader!" I yelled.

But Najenda covered her ears like a child... was she... crying? I said before that I could never imagine boss cry, but now I'm seeing it right before me. She sniffles, her knees buckling.
