Imagine: Alex has a journel that she writes in whenever she can - she made it herself but only began to actually use it when she joined the Company. Thorin, however, finds the journel and reads it as he wonders what it was. Secrets are revealed that day.
Thorin's P.O.V
"Hey Thorin!!" a voice I easily recognised called out to me as I took a seat against a large tree trunk; I had announced that we would be stopping for the night as the sky would soon be full of stars within an hour or so - a fire was lit, food was cooking and bedrolls were set up. Looking towards the only female member of the group, I watched as she finished setting up her own bedroll only a few feet away from my place by the tree; she glanced over her shoulder as she spoke "could you keep an eye on my things please??" she asked. Understanding she was talking about her bag, I nodded my head before asking where she planned to go "just gonna head down to the lake we passed a few minutes away from here and wash up" she explained as she collected her towel and small bar of soap "because let's be honest, I stink" I chuckled at her slightly true comment, seeming to earn a grin from the woman. "Alright, but be careful and yell if anything happens" I warned as I removed my weapons from my person and began to clean and sharpen them; the twenty five year old reassured me that she would be just fine "besides, I'm taking my dagger down to the lake with me" she smirked before turning and walking away. Feeling better about her wandering away, I returned my attention to my sword before listening out to what the rest of my Company were discussing - our quest, the past and dinner. What actually brought me out of my own thoughts was my mischievious nephews play fighting; they didn't even realise they had knocked into Alex's belongings, forcing her bag to the floor - some of the contents of the bag spilled out onto the floor. Not that anyone else noticed as they were laughing at dumb and dumber for the childish actions. Rolling my eyes with a sigh, I lay my sword down by my side before pushing myself up so that I was on my knees; I reached over and grabbed onto the woman's bag, pulling it so that it was up right before beginning to gather all of the fallen items. Her hair brush, a cloth to clean her weapons, a small bar of flint for a fire, her blanket that we had previously descovered was a gift from her late father - I made sure to pat the dirt off of it the best I could, her canteen of water which I made a mental note to refill and....a book?? A book I had never seen before.

Once all items were safely and securely stored within the bag, I decided to take a better look at the book. It appeared to be handmade. A brown leather surrounding the paper. Though it seemed to remain closed together due to leather string keeping a pencil in place. This earned an impressed brow raise - had Alex really made this herself?? Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me. Opening the book, I began to see that the pencil had been used to write on most of the pages - was she writing a story?? In order to find out, I began to read the first extract:
"I'm crazy. Absoluely and utterly crazy. I met with Gandalf again today, though he wasn't alone. Over ten dwarves and a hobbit are travelling with him to a place called Erebor; he says they are 'the Company of Thorin Oakenshield'. It was the dwarves home before a fire breathing dragon attacked and forced them to leave - they were some of the survivors. Apparently, they plan to return the the mountain and reclaim it - somehow defeating the dragon!! And to add to the madness, I...agreed to join them. Like I said, I'm crazy!! But I know why - I seem myself within them. Especially their leader, Thorin Oakenshielf. They each - other than Bilbo, the hobbit - lost their home, as well as many of their people and family members, but they have a change to reclaim it again and rebuild. That's something I will never be able to do thanks to my father's enemies. But I'll be damned if I don't see them do so - what a sight that will be!! The smiles of joy. The wide and possibly watery eyes. That's something I find worth fighting for. It's clear some of the dwarves wish for me to stay out of the Company and their business, especially Thorin who I swear I have caught glaring at me a couple of times since Gandalf had introduced me. Did he hate me already?? Surely not - maybe he doesn't like humans?? I'm aware of the harsh feud that lives between dwarves and elves - it's not a pretty sight. Though a rare one as they tend to stay away from one another. But I don't think there has ever been anything as such between dwarves and humans. Maybe it's a personal thing?? I hope I'll be able to change that as I doubt this will be a comfortable journey if not. I have to go - Gandalf wishes to talk with me about the quest".
