Chapter three

The breezy environment didn't stop Cleopatra from feeling heavy, she felt like a stuff sack bag and she hadn't even eaten yet.
Her main problem was the fact that her in-laws were coming over and she was going to be eating with them for dinner,she felt dizzy and nausea,the last time they came over she ended up running to her room with tears in her eyes and now she was going to go through that all over again,she didn't want to but she didn't have a choice.
So she sat and watched as rain drops trickled down her window and fell to the ground, she watched as the cloud became gloomy and it resembled her heart,she watched as the sun was covered and hidden behind the dark sky,like happiness being sucked away from the world,like her.

She couldn't wait to get this over with,her anxieties were getting the best of her,and she blamed it on coffee,her coffee had an odd taste today and the maid said it was for her wounds to heal,that's when she remembered that she was once pregnant yesterday and was no longer with a baby.

The day dragged on like a sloth and her time was spent getting a warm bath and getting ready for the dreaded dinner that consisted of cancaphonic laughter like the monsters they were.

Her hair was braided and pinned sideways,her makeup was dull and natural and her lips needed no lipstick as it was the right shade of cherry pink,she licked her lips and stared at the mirror as the maids helped her get ready,one was Maria and the other was Clara.

"You look so beautiful Madam". Maria the chirpy one said while Clara shushed her.

"I apologise Madam on behalf of Maria's naughty nature".Clara said as she glared at Maria angrily and she shut up.

After they were done with everything,Maria looked like she was about to explode if she didn't say what was on her mind.

"Go on Maria what is it".Cleopatra urged her to speak.

"Well Madam I noticed that you were.....
Well you had a.......am sorry Madam I'll leave". Maria said as she lowered her head in shame.

Cleopatra knew what she wanted to know, how a woman who was pregnant yesterday could be flat tummy the next day,she wondered the same thing herself.

When the time came,she was led down the stairs,those horrible stairs that she had so many memories about,her thoughts were cut short when she came face to face with Aaron.

"You took your time". Aaron commented angrily and she gulped down the fear she had in her.

"Am sorry". She apologised as she held his hands like a perfect couple and they walked to the dinning room which consisted of gold,gold and more gold.

Her in-laws were already sited looking like hungry wolves ready to tear her apart but she kept her calm.

She sat next to her husband,on his right was his father and on her right to her greatest dismay was her mother in-law Queen,and then his two sisters who had no manners and his two younger brothers who knew nothing about life than how to deceive naive girls.

"Let us start".Her mother in law said authoritatively like she owned the house.

"Cleopatra am so happy to see you,how have you been fairing". Her mother in law feigned cheerfulness.

"I have been fine mother thank you". She said cautiously as she ate.

"You shouldn't eat too much dear or you'll grow fat in no time". Her mother in law said again.

Cleopatra looked at her and the rest of her family and dropped her head down not wanting to be intimidated by their looks.

"Yes Cleopatra you know how much my brother hates fat women". His sister Dina said as she smirked at her but she looked away.

"How's the baby anyway". Her mother in law said as Cleopatra dropped her fork and stared at the plate.
She knew she wouldn't be able to eat today.

"She lost it". Aaron said as if it was a bracelet that fell into the sewers.

"Oh isn't that quite a surprise". Her mother in law with the name Queen said,although if she could be queen of anything,it would be of the dead.

"How come you can't hold a baby in your womb for too long, is it faulty". Aaron other sister Regina said and the two sisters laughed at their insensitive joke.

"It reminds me of a certain old witch called Claudette,she couldn't give birth too until she finally gave birth to a baby girl,her in-laws were so disappointed they kicked her out". Queen said as every one laughed,while Cleopatra's eyes watered,they were talking about her mother in the most disgusting way,Cleopatra's mother Claudette was her life.

"I heard that my friend's daughter has a very stable womb and she's not married yet,want to switch sides Cleopatra". Queen laughed and Cleopatra bit her bottom lip to stop the tears,she knew they could be so insensitive,it was heart breaking.

"Mother". Aaron said as his mother looked at him."I already have plans for that". He said as everyone laughed again and Cleopatra felt Aaron tighten his hands on her lap which made her want to yelp in pain,he wanted to hurt her bad,and his family wanted the same.

"Cleopatra take my advise,step down so better women could take your place". Aaron's sister Dina said.

"Your mother must be so proud of you, you're a replica of her miserable self". Queen said as Cleopatra closed her eyes,she didn't like hearing about her mother in such a bad way .She wanted to stand up and tear Queen's eyes apart but Aaron's hands on her laps was making it hard to move, his fingers were piercing her flesh and it pained her so much, she looked at him and found him staring at her,his eyes held a message .speak and you die.
She lowered her eye and looked at her plate and swallowed the lump in her throat.

The dinner continued with more abusive insults but after dinner everything died down and the insensitive creatures went back to their world of cruelty.

"You did good today Cleopatra, don't say a word and everything would be okay". Aaron said as he smirked at her and left her alone again.
