Mackie's POV
The first three hours of class were unusually calming. The weird feeling of happiness kind of shed over me, making the class go by faster. I looked down at my math textbook and started playing with my fingers.
I glanced at Y/N who was taking notes on the lesson today. I've never seen someone so invested in integers and proportional relationships. I snickered a little bit, causing her to turn her head.
Since it was the last five minutes of class, Mrs. Pamatigan had us do group discussions with the person next to you. My partner was obviously Y/N which sent a joyful feeling through my veins.
"What's so funny?" Y/N asked, doing that thing where she tilts her head to the side.
I snickered again, making her nudge my arm. "Nothing! Nothing!" I exclaimed, trying to keep my voice down. She shot me an annoyed but playful look and went back to her notes.
I looked over her shoulder over at her notes which were unreasonably neat. "Why did you take so many notes?" I asked.
Highlighting her answers, she said, "Well, I'm new here. I probably already missed a lot of subjects and lessons, so I have to catch up."
There was something about her words that made me feel a rush of admiration. I snapped out of it and looked at the clock and at our classmates who were getting up.
I rested my chin on Y/N's shoulder and immediately felt her tense up. I saw as a light blush rise up to her cheeks and ears and smiled to myself. I stood up to pack my stuff and said, "Let's go, Y/N. Lunch is starting."
She seemed to snap out of a trance and scrambled to gather her stuff, "Oh, uh, o-okay."
We left the classroom, lunches in hand, and made our way to the outside area, where I have lunch with Keifer and Francis. I saw my two best friends sitting at our usual table. I was about to walk over but Y/N tugged at my shirt. I turned around to see her looking uncertain.
"Are you sure I can sit with you?" she mumbled, gesturing towards the other two boys. I smiled slightly and nodded.
We walked over and Francis suddenly hugged Y/N, which gave me an unsettling feeling.
"Hi Y/N!" he said after pulling away. Keifer simply smiled and waved.
Y/N sat down, followed by me, and unpacked the lunch my mom packed for her. Francis started a conversation between the three of them while I was lost in thought. I heard them exchange numbers and Instagram accounts, which Y/N and I did on the day she moved in, when Esang suddenly sat down in front of me.
I rolled my eyes at the girl in front of me as the other three stopped their conversation.
I tapped my foot on the ground, "What do you want Esang?"
She smiled that sweet fake smile she used to get what she wanted. I glanced to the side as Keifer and Francis tried to comfort a dreadful looking Y/N. I turned back to Esang and said, "Esang, if it's not important then go back to your own table."
Esang made a genuinely hurt face, which made me rethink my words.
"Esang, I-" I was cut off by her hand.
"It's fine, Mack. I'll talk to you later," she smiled. Esang stood from our table and walked back over to her clique.
I sighed as I turned back to my friends, who stayed silent.
The thing with Esang is that she was one of our friends we made on a show Keifer, Francis, and I went on, called Your Face Sounds Familar Kids. She was really nice and we hung out often. And something that has stuck with me ever since we first met Esang was that . . .
I liked her.
