Victoria
In the corridor, just five minutes before we start heading downstairs, I stand behind Chris. His broad shoulders block my view from the rest of the others in front of his tall frame.
He vestures a dark, muscle tee, for his arms to hang uncovered - so his bird tattoo on his left and bare shoulder is revealed; which takes me back to the first night I saw it, after I pulled the soaked bullet out of his abdomen before Rio helped him exit my house.
It feels like that night occurred just days ago, surely not months.
As if he knew he crossed my mind, Rio's best boy glances behind, locking onto my brown irises. A dark brow of his raises imperceptibly - in question.
I nod, gesturing that I'm prepared for the events that'll occur in the next hour or so. Chris' bearded jawline hardens, before he turns to face ahead again.
Grasping tighter onto my weapon, I take a deep breath, as everyone begins in their slick tracks down the silent corridor.
It doesn't take minutes before we approach the stairwell, and I follow behind them. I hear the steps behind me, though, from the boys Rio ordered to stay behind me for back up.
Speaking of, I'm unsure of where the lead gangster is, at the moment. He was ahead of us, in guide, but now his presence no longer lingers - at least not on the never ending staircase.
"Where is Rio?" I whisper to Chris, who peers over his shoulder a moment before glancing ahead again.
"He's the first outside. Once we hit the back door he'll be there to inform us if it's clear to head out for the lot." He answers deeply.
Pacing behind him, I clear my throat. "Oh, he didn't tell me that."
"Sh!" A man behind me shushes, and instantly, I stop in my tracks.
I turn around to meet the eyes of this guy - in turn his green eyes widen when he stops too. I perch a brow, placing my hand on a hip, my other hand gripping the cool handle of my gun.
I send a deadly glare, for only a deep swallow to sound in the stairwell perimeter. After a warning glance, I turn back around to catch up with the others - but I almost bump into a figure.
Chris stands firmly, watching me all along, an impressed smirk playing about on his face. I give him a dumbfounded look, before he turns to head down the last bit of stairs. I follow, and so does the men behind me.
Finally, when we reach the back door, we come to a stop. Low mumbles echo around the doorway that I stand ten feet away from - and I think I hear the gangster's voice.
But he and a boy of his, ahead of the line, are succeeding in keeping quiet, and I can't quite catch what he's saying. Until he raises his husky tone slightly a moment, in the end.
"Alright, let's go." He orders, and everyone before me starts to get a move on. As I eventually pass him by, a gentle grip latches onto my arm, stopping me in my tracks.
I turn my attention onto the gangster's hand, before he removes it from off of me. My steady gaze contacts his own.
"Be careful." He states, his eyes dark under the night sky and glimmering with something unreadable.
"I will." I assure. "Stay close." I say, lips twitching in turn.
Rio's full lips curve to form a smug grin, before he drags across his face roughly. The gangster purses his lips.
"I mean it." He clarifies, his tone domineering. Either of my brows raise, in turn.
"So did I." I suppress my smile, when I move past him, stepping outside.
Ahead of me, the rest of the guys are collecting position behind some objects, in hiding. I get down and jog toward a partially broken wall, just outside the parking lot. From it, I own sight of the hotel building, most of the cars in the lot, and the majority of the boy's who prepare for aim.
I suck in a smooth breath, and peer at my surroundings. The roof of the hotel building - I can see a dark silhouette standing still - my first target out on watch.
I keep in mind his location, before I continue scanning around. As I do, the first sniper shot sounds, and it's low. But I jump slightly, fully alarmed.
Quickly, before the enemies can gather knowledge of the attack, I spin around to aim at the top of the building again.
Confusion consumes me as to whom fired the first shot, but I try pushing it aside, and adjust my deadly aim.
Darkness claims territory in my gut - my finger caresses the golden trigger.
But before I pull, another sniper shot alerts me again, and I jolt my gaze over to a dropping body - one that tumbles from the cafeteria roof across the lot. My jaw drops, and my breath is hitched when I hear a sudden splat when the breathless body hits the cemented ground.
Oh my-
I face ahead, hurriedly, and swallow. Forcibly, I land the tip of my gun on the silhouetted target from afar, and prepare to shoot.
I'm gonna do it. Because this is for us, as the gangster said. So I guess we're rocking Bonnie and Clyde style.
Wait... that story didn't end so well-
A boom sounds and echoes suddenly around the dark perimeter - a shot was fired again.
I blink ahead, at the trail of smoke from the active gun powder, I presume, radiating from the tip of my gun.
My shot, it was my shot.
Disturbingly, another splat encounters. I gasp. I peer out now on my tip toes, searching for the body. Then and there - far and just inches from the building - lies a dead body.
I SHOT HIM! I-
I... killed someone...
My heart uncontrollably pounds in my ears, and my blood rushes. I quickly stand upright.
"I did it..." I breathe, unsure of what to feel. I run my free hand through my disheveled hair, before a humorless laugh escapes my quavering lips.
"I did it!" I faintly squeal, that is, before numerous loud shots are fired - coming from all around this time - not just from our people.
I hurriedly get down, instinctively covering my head with my arms as the shots continue - before I gather preparation once more to stand, and pull the trigger as much as I'm gonna have to.
