Victoria
"OK," I breathe for a start, running a hand through the waves of my dark brown hair, seated in the passenger seat of Rio's car. "Once we get there I'm going to get my car, then we'll just meet at my place afterward?"
I shift in the leather seat to turn toward the gangster - his dark and glimmering irises flashing under each light that canvases across his handsome structures, from the light poles aligning the street outside. Rio is going at least 80 mph, behind Chris's truck.
His gaze settle on me, finally, his deep irises grasping onto me to steal a longing breath.
I want him. I want him so bad... but I know what we have to do - what I'm to do. There's evidence of our people just miles ahead of us, at East Wayward, and we have to gain a clear coast.
I feel my jaw harden, while my eyes never peel from his own. But soon, and without option, Rio reverts his concentration ahead at the road - his knuckles white on the steering wheel.
Glancing ahead, I note that we only have minutes, before we reach the hotel lot. I remember the bodies, that were scattered cold and breathless from our own unstoppable bullets. I can place the sound - the bitter, taunting sound - of my first target's body splatting onto the cemented ground; the sight of her unmoving frame casting a shiver to travel down my spine unintentionally.
I squeeze my brown eyes shut, and gently lean my head back onto the leather headrest - mentally trying to rid my thoughts... the fatal memories.
"After this..." Rio starts firmly, his tone low, "...after this we head home." He answers, and I glance next to me to see his structured features tense across his face. His focused gaze is still fixated ahead. "And when it's all over, me and you will go somewhere, maybe take some time off to enjoy ourselves, yeah?" He suggests huskily, and my pink lips begin to twitch.
I nod in agreement, before it hits me that he's still facing ahead, and he's not watching me at the moment. My lips find themselves curving into a genuine smile. "Yeah. Yeah that'll be great." I respond directly.
I turn to fixate ahead, just when Rio turns on the final road that connects to East Wayward Inn. Curling my lip, I avert my gaze down to the comfortable black pants I slipped on earlier, after Rio and I's interruption of his best boy's phone call. Above my very own lap, I fidget with my fingers. But not in a nervous manner, no, because I'm anything but afraid, nor anxious, about what we're returning back to - but just out of habit.
"Did you really do it?" I ask quietly, my voice immediately revealing my curiosity. I glimpse at Rio once more, when he nears the entrance of the lot. "Did you really give him the thirty grand earlier?"
I already know that this question should've stood for earlier, the moment I stepped into Rio's car when he got me out of that cryptic house Beth brought me to. But I had more important things to ask him beforehand. And now, on the way to a possible investigation scene swarmed with armed policemen, I figured why not ask?
I bite down on my lip in wait, mere seconds before the gangster's full lips part. "I said I would, right?" He says in turn, his lips twitching when he quickly glances at me before he averts his brown eyes onto the road again.
"Always trust me, ma. Like I said, I got you." Rio assures lowly, and my heart instantly hammers excessively inside my chest. I feel my lips tug upward. But I glance ahead again, too soon, for my attempted smile to falter.
My chest immediately becomes heavy, when Rio pulls his car into the lot, following slowly behind Chris and the rest of the boys. Far across the lot of the hotel, showcases more than five police cars. I can already feel the flickering blue and red lights pass across my own face, as Rio pulls around the back of the grand building.
Darkness consumes me. The taillights ahead beam a crimson red once Chris parks his truck before us, and shortly following Rio puts his own car in park behind him.
"Crap, Rio..." I whisper, piping in irritation, before I exit the vehicle without expecting any form of response. But before I quietly shut the car door behind me I hear the gangster curse under his breath, before I hear his door shut as well.
Peering over his sleek black BMW, that blends in with the starry night, I latch onto the gangster's dark gaze. His eyes are watching me carefully, knowingly; as if I'm an expectant ticking clock just urging to go off - alerting all the pondering policemen around.
He probably doesn't want me here. I know how dangerous this can be. But I chose to come - and I'm not leaving his side no matter what.
With squinted eyes, I peer out. Almost immediately, I spot my silver Nissan parked across the lot - just feet away from the FBI that embellish the cemented ground. About a dozen frames stand hovering the cop cars - their sirens currently silent and on hold.
I glance at Rio, and his gaze is already fixed on me. I swallow lightly, sending him a half nod.
I have to get to my car. My hand gently brushes against the pocket of my pants; the faint sound of my car keys dangling just at the reach of my own ears.
"We need to separate." A deep voice sounds, but it's so low it's barely audible. I avert my attention onto the one speaking. Chris mouths his next words, pointing between Rio and two more men. "You guys come with me. There should be an easy trace of us up front."
I throw a glance over my shoulder, at the tall gangster, who instantly locks his jaw into a tense position. Then, he sends a firm nod my way, and I catch onto the signal of assurance. I nod in understanding, when I flicker my eyes down to his set of full lips.
"Once you get to your car, go home." He whispers lowly, gesturing toward the lot. My brows furrow in abundant refusal. But Rio clenches his jaw again, sending grave darts with his eyes. "Get back home." He mouths, putting an end to my intended protest when he follows into step with Chris - the four men already beginning in their smooth steps to near the entrance of the building.
I take in a breath, before quickly spinning on my heels without time to think. I face Liki who's Asian frame already stands near me. His chestnut brown eyes are wide and alert, as they meet mine.
"Liki, I'm gonna need you to sneak into the surveillance room from the back for me. Think you can do that?" I question him. Liki nods hurriedly without hesitation, before he moves past me to tip toe around the back corner of the building.
But before Liki could slip away, I hear a sudden pssst behind me. I glance back again, at Liki's short frame, who gathers my attention. He tosses something my way quickly, and fully alert I catch it.
A walkie talkie.
I send him a dumbfounded glance, clutching onto the device in hand. Liki shrugs, lifting his hands in innocence, before he turns around, and disappears behind the tall wall.
I tug at my lip, turning around. I fixate my attention onto my parked car out in the lot again.
Now, just how am I gonna get to my car?
