This day — Chapter 37

"Well, good thing the car immediately stopped when it saw you," he replied to what I told him about what happened. "That could've killed you, Avie, if it didn't hit its brakes."

Gosh, this guy used to break hearts before, and now he just literally cures people.

Thanks for the helpful bystanders, I was brought to this hospital immediately. This was the hospital where Mom was working for.

No way.

"Where have you been these past years?" I asked suddenly because I was really curious of him. He was my friend too, of course! It became a mystery nung umalis siya na wala man lang nakakaalam. He deactivated it all.

He sighed heavily, like he has no escape as of the moment. Wala na talaga siyang kawala! Subukan niya lang talagang magchange topic! I'm warning him. Siya itong nagvolunteer na gamutin ako, e.

"London," he simply answered.

"I thought you were at Australia?"

"Obviously, I lied."

"Why?"

"I thought if I lied, no one will follow me," he said.

I also noticed that his surname stated in his ID is now different. From Jimenez, became to Lauchengco—which was totally mind-blowing. Kanila itong hospital?! Where Mom was working before? Oh, my god. I asked him about that, at buti nalang nagsabi ng totoo ang loko, na kanila nga itong hospital. I also asked him why his surname changed, and told me the summary—it was a long story, he said. Hindi ko na ipinilit pa'ng ipiga mula sa kanya, because I know it's their family's problem.

I also asked him how in the hell became a doctor.

"I studied in London, took the board, and became a doctor," he answered. "Well, I did a little reviewing here in the Philippines, and also took the board here. I can be a doctor in London and in the Philippines, legally."

"Hmm. Mahirap ba? You know, the life in med school? Then later on, taking the board," I asked.

He shrugged. "Tama lang. You just got to study," he replied. Late bloomer siguro 'to. From high school, he was average, but now... He took the board twice in different countries, and all I can do is bow down to his intelligence. "Bakit? May balak ka rin ba magmed?" he added.

"Well, yes—I don't know—maybe?"

"Try mo lang, and have a residency here after you graduate and pass the board," he said. "By the way... I heard about your Mom, and I'm sorry for what happened... She was a doctor here, right?"

I nodded. "It's fine. We can just move on what happened," I said. Mahirap man tanggapin, pero kailangan, e. It's not easy to just tell them that we've move on. But all in all, at least we can handle the pain.

Silence enveloped us. Later on, Kenneth prescribed me some ointments para sa mga sugat ko sa braso at sa binti. It was bleeding as hell, but I'm really okay now. Pwede ko namang itago ang ito. I can always wear long sleeves and pants.

He sighed. "Xavierre, I can't help but ask..." he trailed, while he was looking at me seriously. "Are you upset?"

"Why would I be upset?"
