Inej has added Kaz to private chat
Kaz: What business.
Inej: im really sorry
Kaz: I don't care.
Inej: i swear i had no idea they had joined the chat, i thought it was private
Kaz: Whatever.
Inej: saints, kaz. why are you being like this?
Kaz: Because you're an amazing person.
Inej: ...
Kaz: *investment
Kaz: You're an amazing investment.
Kaz: I mistyped, stupid gloves.
Inej: Kaz, listen. I'm 100% positive it is private this time.
Kaz: So?
Inej: so, you can tell me now. i still want to know what happened to you.
Kaz: I don't know.
Inej: why? you've said it yourself, you trust me
Kaz: I've never told anyone. I don't know where to start.
Inej: start at the beginning
Kaz: I'm going to summarize it the best I can, but it will still take a while.
Inej: take all the time you need, you can't rush this type of thing
Inej: ...
Inej: what's taking you so long?
Inej: hellooo??
Kaz: After our father died in a farming accident, me and my brother were given enough money to take a ship to Ketterdam, and hopefully eat long enough for us to find work. The working part didn't go as planned. We were pigeons, completely vulnerable. That was when we met Pekka Rollins, except he called himself Jacob Hertzoon. He conned us, and we lost everything. When the Queen Lady plague hit Ketterdam, we both got sick. I was too weak to move, so when the bodymen searched the streets, I was just another one of the dead. They dumped me and my brother in the Reaper's Barge, he was long dead by then. It wasn't until days later that I gathered enough strength to swim back to the harbor, but not without the help of my brother's body holding me above the water. I survived and became stronger. But now every small contact with skin brings me back to the Reaper's Barge, back to plague-ruined skin sticking to every part of me. That's the whole story, are you satisfied now?
Inej: do i really have to read all of that?
Kaz: No.
Kaz: I changed my mind don't read it, how do I delete a message?
Inej: too late, I read it
Kaz: And?
Inej: i don't know why but i can't stop crying
Kaz: Why? Stop it
Inej: i can't
Inej: did that really happen to you?
Kaz: Yes.
Kaz: I shouldn't have told you.
Inej: no, you shouldn't have
Kaz: Well what were you expecting?
Inej: i don't know!
Inej: maybe you never told anybody because it was a weird childhood disease or something
Kaz: I mean you were kind of right.
Inej: kaz
Kaz: Just stop crying.
Inej: i can't, i hate it here
Inej: when are you going to rescue me?
Kaz: Soon.
Inej: i'm just an investment, that's why you won't come sooner
Kaz: That's not completely true.
Inej: he was going to break my legs.
Kaz: So?
Inej: he was going to break my legs, make it so I couldn't climb.
Inej: would you still come then? if i was no longer an amazing investment?
Inej: if i wasn't your wraith anymore?
Kaz: Idk maybe.
Inej: i hate you
I know I keep promoting my other fic, but if you wan't to see a more serious version of this conversation, go check out Kaz Goes To Church. I haven't written that part yet, but I am planning on publishing the next chapter within the next few days, and that will include this conversation.
