He angirly walked to Tyler and grabbed his arm.
"We're going."
Tyler pulled out of his grip and pulled out the USB, quickly stuffing it in his pocket. He figured he won't be able to convince Evan to stay any longer, and he got as much info as he could. He also grabbed the hard drive they came for and handed it to Evan.
"Do you see another exit? A hole or vent, anything?" -Tyler asked as he looked around himself.
"Doesn't seem like it. The only way in and out is that door, which is currently keeping us fron like twenty or so angry guards." -Evan replied.
Tyler went to one of the guards on the ground and checked if he had anything useful they could use as a distraction. Whilst he did that, Evan checked around the room and found a smoke granade sitting on the desk near some ammo and some type of drug layed out.
He grabbed the smoke and called Tyler over.
"You open the door, I'll throw the smoke, you close the door, we wait a bit,open it again and sneak through when they come in." -He proposed.
"Okay."
And that's what they did. They got into position, and as soon as the door was open just enough for Evan to throw it, he did and quickly ran to the side as Tyler closed the door.
When they heard the smoke had initiated, they opened the door wide and stayed against the walls. The guards barged in and coughed whilst their eyes scanned around the room and they walked in. Tyler and Evan quietly sbeaked behind them and down the hallway, holding their breath and fighting the urge to cough as well.
When they exited that hallway, they stopped holding their breaths and started running. As they ran,they heard more footsteps coming towards them, behind them and coming up in front of them.
They stopped dead in their tracks and listened in. Panicked and using his instinct, Evan tackled Tyler into another hallway.
It was a good thing he had done that, because as soon as the guards saw them, the guards started shooting.
"Evan..." -Tyler complained.
"Right, sorry."
Evan quickly got off him and stood to shut the door, locking it and barricading it. While he did that, Tyler looked around for an exit.
He didn't see anything but boxes, so he moved them around, thinking that maybe there's a vent behind them or something that could help them.
He didn't find a vent, but he did find a hole in the floor, which led to the room bellow. He informed Evan and they jumped through as quickly as they could.
Their landing was tough but mostly safe, and if the drop was any higher and their landing was a bit off, they would've broken their legs.
They left the room and continued running down the hallway.
"How should we get out? Vents or front door?" -Tyler asked.
"I mean at this point, we might as well just use the front door. Better yet, use the first exit we find." -Evan replied.
He tried to see if he could get through to Brock and after a few tries, they heard Brock's worried voice come through.
"-guys hear me? Hello?"
"Brock!"
"Evan? Finally. You guys okay?"
"Not really." -Tyler complained.
"Yeah, we're kind of in a pitch. We need backup." -Evan said.
"Right. I'll send the team to gatecrash the building. Did you get the drive."
"Yeah, we got it."
"Good. Since comms are working, I can help you get out safely. Turn right on the next corner and continue down the hallway."
With Brock's help, they reached an exit which led to the building's old fire escape staircase. Climbing down slowly, they reached the bottom and ran back towards their drop off location.
From there they watched the situation unfold as LAAU agents barged in through the door and captured the rampant guards who were still looking for the duo and the drive.
~~~
Tyler and Evan returned to LAAU only to be greeted by a very angry David and an amused Natalie at the front lobby.
"Where the hell were you two?!"
"Um...fishing." -Evan responded.
"Fishing, my ass! You two went on a mission!"
The pair didn't reply and that only infuriated David more.
"Relax bro, I sent them out." -Natalie spoke, failing to huge the grin on her face.
"What? Why?!"
"Because they're not children, despite their childish behavior." -She commented, earning a small glare from the two.
"They're capable agents, and you need to start treating them as such. I'm not saying trust them fully yet, monitoring them and assisting them is okay. Just don't treat them like rookies."
David thought over her words and decided he'd try to listen to her advice. She was right after all, he just didn't want to admit it.
"So, did you monitor them?" -He asked.
"Of course! I also had Brock help guide them."
"Brock? Really? My own partner, going behind my back."
"Oh relax, you were busy doing other shit anyway. I was bored." -Brock spoke as he entered the room.
"You were bored huh? Did you even do your paperwork?"
"Do you need me to answer that?"
"Chief is gonna fire you someday, I swear." -David muttered, rolling his eyes.
Brock only shrugged his shoulders and walked away.
"Ooookay, anywaaay you guys did good and you're probably exhausted. David will take you back to your apartment." -Natalie spoke.
"As much as I would be happy to do that, I still got some work to finish up."
"Okay, I'll drive them then."
"Fine. But hurry up. I have to talk to you about something important afterwards."
"What about?"
"I'll tell you when we talk. Now go."
Natalie nodded and ushered the pair out the door. David watched them leave and had a serious look on his face.
