It's You again God,
Whenever I have days when I feel like things are not progressing how I imagined they would and I'm stuck in a perpetual fog that won't lift, I am so thankful for a Your Word that points me in the right direction! Sometimes I just need a simple list or a plan of what to do, a 'what to do when you don't know what to do'. This morning I found such a list and so it's my focus for today! I loved reading it in the Message Translation:
"But he's already made it plain how to live, what to do, what GOD is looking for in men and women. It's quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, And don't take yourself too seriously— take God seriously."
Micah 6:8 MSGOf course, You have already shown me how to live and what to do, but You are looking for something specific in me. I need to do what is fair and just to my neighbour and that means everyone but it starts at home. I am sorry to say that I sometimes don't even think about my immediate neighbours in the fast paced lifestyle we all live in! We are always coming and going! I hear cars leaving for work in the morning but I may not see the occupants for twelve months or more!
Your Word says to be 'compassionate and loyal in your love' toward my neighbours, which means I need to show sympathy and concern for them. Lord prompt me and move me to find ways to show these qualities today! Loyalty indicates an ongoing relationship where support is constant. Lord may Your Spirit guide me and be my motivation. This verse was written many years before You came Jesus but it has the same feel as when You gave us a new commandment:
""A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.""
John 13:34-35 NIVJesus You love me so much that You went to the cross, taking all of my sins! You were willing to die for me! I need to love as You have loved me. I must walk humbly with You, not thinking of myself more highly than I ought to. In this way I won't take myself too seriously but instead keep my eyes on You —taking You seriously!
I am encouraged as I am reminded that this requirement is described as being simple! That's all I can cope with today and of course with Your Spirit working through me, it doesn't rely on my love or ability but on Yours! Love through me today —I am Your servant!
To bring You glory,
Amen.
