It's You again God,
While dealing with flu symptoms there are certain things that are very comforting: warm drinks, homemade soup and a cosy bed! Recently having spent several days in bed, under the covers, I have been thinking about what Your Word says about the way You cover those who trust You. It's a really beautiful picture and the only way to find true rest:
"Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart."
Psalm 91:1-4 NIVJust as my bed has been a real refuge for me, I am reminded that You cover me with Your feathers, which at this time reminds me of a feather doona but usually I just think of being covered like a baby bird under it's parents wings. It's such a secure image as I dwell close to You. Nothing I can do can keep me safe but it's Your faithfulness which is a shield and keeps me from all harm.
Thank You for this marvellous image and for covering me and protecting me in every situation I come up against! There are so many things I will never have to deal with as I trust You:
"You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked."
Psalm 91:5-8 NIVI might see and observe what is happening but it's not going to affect me!
"If you say, "The Lord is my refuge," and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. "Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.""
Psalm 91:9-16 NIVOh Lord I am so blessed and will hold onto these promises today! Thank You for being with me in trouble and for loving me, guarding me, delivering me and honouring me. I am happy to remain under Your covering until Jesus comes again,
Amen.
