Chapter 22 - One Big Family

A blue SUV just drove past the groove, heading towards the private residence of the Roland family. A full hour drive from the international airport after the long hours on the plane had tired out all of them, especially the children. They fell asleep while Jing Wen Xun took the wheel. And soon, they arrived. Passing through the entrance gate, their car drove in, towards the residence. A beautifully trimmed flower garden, the sparkling looking fountain and the mansion with a full white layout soon appeared before their eyes. Jing Wen Xun drove to the porch and parked there. A butler appeared from the mansion and helped them to carry in the luggage.

He woke Xie Xi Qi with a soft shook on his shoulder, so light his movement was as he was afraid to wake the children up. But Mike was already awake. Glaring at him when he was removing his safety belt. Jing Wen Xun offered to hold onto baby Mikaela who continued to sleep so comfortably in his arms. He smiled widely as he followed Xie Xi Qi into the mansion.

"What are you smiling so happily for?" Xie Xi Qi sleepily asked as he yawned.

"Well, don't you think we looked like a perfect family right now? We'd looked like an old married couple with two children, going on a family trip."

"Heh.." Xie Xi Qi was not impressed at all. Jing Wen Xun had always done the unexpected so he was definitely anything but surprised. They headed in, following the head butler in charge of the mansion who had come to accept them at the door. As they walk, Xie Xi Qi spoke as low as he could, trying to tell Jing Wen Xun some details in regards to his family.

"Listen up, Jing Wen Xun, don't try any funny business here. My dad is a former detective and he most probably will kill you if you tried anything on me."

"Okay. Tell me more about your family." Jing Wen Xun chuckled. Did Xie Xi Qi guess out what he would be trying to do here?

"Uhmn...My mom, Stephanie divorced my dad Xie Yun Cheng and married my stepdad, Joe Roland. They had Mike when I was still in high school. Joe is a wealthy furniture supplier and he had three children aside from Mike here. Their names are Esther, Austen, and Neil. Mikaela is Esther's kid. Supposing that mom is using Mikaela and Mike to get me here for the anniversary dinner."

They arrived in the living room. Pushing the door open, Jing Wen Xun finally met Xie Xi Qi's family.

Everyone was sitting around the fireplace and laughing. A woman noticed their entry and smiled as she walked towards them. She held out her hands, reaching for the child in Jing Wen Xun's bosom.

"Mikaela, have you fallen asleep?" She carried Mikaela away and stood beside her husband. Kissing the baby's cheeks before she greeted them.

"Hello, I see our Freddy here has brought an unfamiliar friend home this year. Will you introduce yourself so we'll get to know you better?" The others had stopped communicating with one another, everyone's attention on the guest Xie Xi Qi had brought with him.

With his hands now free from carrying anything, Jing Wen Xun boldly grabbed Xie Xi Qi's hand. Firmly grasped them with their fingers interlocked.

"Pardon for my sudden intrusion during your family gathering. My name is Eric Jing Wen Xun. I'm Xie Xi Qi's...fiance."

Something exploded in Xie Xi Qi's mind. He had a migraine at this moment. And the reasoning for this was due to this lover of his throwing out his handmade bomb right in front of his family.

"He's not-" He sure didn't know how to explain their current relationship. If not fiance, then a boyfriend? Or a lover? There wasn't much difference to its meaning.

But everyone sure did not look surprised at all. They had a pretty lax expression compared to Xie Xi Qi who was a little bit tensed up. Mike went to sit in between the two men he called dad and Austen.
