Chapter 13
Bucky's POV
I'm back in Wakanda for a few days to take a break from traveling the world with Sam. He's here too but he needed some time for himself which is understandable. Everyone needs some quality me time in order to preserve their sanity. As I'm sipping on some wine from a patio overlooking the city, I notice someone flying through the protective barriers. The only people who have clearance to pass in and out of the barriers are fellow Avengers. As this person gets closer, I recognize them immediately. It's Wanda, she's back. I grin up at her and she lands carefully down below me on the ground. "It's good to see you Bucky."
"The same thing goes for you. What brings you back? I'm happy to see you but I thought that you wanted to stay in the past." She sighs. "I did or at least I thought it did. Steve and I had a chat before I left. He told me that Shuri somehow managed to find Vision's corpse. If she hasn't already called Bruce, I'll do so myself. There's a decent chance of bringing Vision back, especially if she still has pieces of the mind stone left." I scratch the back of my head. "I think she does actually so you're in luck." She flies up onto the patio beside me and the two of us head inside. "Should we have a fanfare for your arrival or key it lowkey? Knowing you, I think you prefer to keep it lowkey." She nods. "You'd be correct then. Steve says hi by the way. He misses you and hopes that you haven't developed a case of stupidity since he's been gone."
I laugh. "That sounds like Steve alright. Thank you for that message. It's the last one I'll ever get from him so it means a lot to me." She frowns. "If the time machine was still in tact, I'd help you go through it to see him one last time. Unfortunately Steve gave me the last bits of it to travel back to the present. The past was interesting to visit but it didn't feel like home to me. It turns out that I value modern technology more than I care to admit. I even missed Starbucks." I snort. "You really have become a basic American girl. You've made dear ol Bucky proud." She rolls her eyes playfully. "Is Shuri around? I'd like to talk to her about bringing Vis back as soon as possible." I nod. "She's in her lab right now. You know where the lab is right?" "I do indeed but you can walk with me there. I could use the company." I wrap an arm around her. "It really is good to have you back."
She takes me by surprise by hugging me tightly. "It's good to be back Bucky. You've become a very good friend to me since the snap occurred. I hope we stay friends for a long time to come." I smile. "I hope so too. Do you mind if I tell Sam you're here though? I know we'd like to see you too. The two of us have been travel partners lately. Taking time off from our heroic duties to finally see the world. It's been a joy for the both of us." "Absolutely." We get to Shuri's lab and Bucky knocks on the door. She smiles at him but jumps up and down when she sees me. She runs to the door and lets us into the lab. "Bucky, it's always good to see you but I'm thrilled to see you again Wanda. What brings you back to Wakanda?"
Wanda's POV
I hug Shuri. "It's wonderful to be back. The past was okay but it wasn't home for me. The present is home for me despite all of the demons I constantly have to fight, most of them being in my own mind. I do have some business to discuss with you though. Before I left the past, Steve told me that you managed to find Vision's corpse. Is that true?" She smiles softly. "It is true. I even managed to find enough pieces of the mind stone to create a replica to place back into Vision's head. I've even called Bruce Banner to help me get the ball rolling. He'll be here tomorrow. He said that's the quickest he can get here. He'll be bringing a guest with him too, his new boyfriend actually."
I raise an eyebrow at him. "Bruce has a boyfriend? I didn't know he was in LGBTQA+ community." Shuri smiles. "Neither did I but he's a very nice man. He deserves a bit of happiness." "Do you know who he's going to be bringing with him here to Wakanda tomorrow?" Shuri's smile turns into a wide one. "Thor." My jaw drops. "He's dating Thor? Thor's awesome but I truly didn't see this coming." "Honestly Wanda, neither did I. I guess they became rather close over the past few years. One thing led to another and now they're a couple. Love is funny like that sometimes." I nod in agreement. "Yeah it certainly is. May I see Vision's body? I know we can't begin to bring him back until tomorrow but it would give me some comfort right now."
She nods and leads me into a private sector of the lab that requires security clearance. She types in some classified information before the doors fly open. She punches in a little more information onto another screen and suddenly Vision's body enters the room, lying on a metal table. She looks at me compassionately. "I'll give you some alone time. Just call me when you're done for the night." I smile tiredly. "Thank you Shuri." She leaves the room, giving me time alone with Vision's body. I graze every part of it gently. "Vis, I've missed you so much. I spent five years grieving your loss alone. Now thank you to Shuri and Bruce, you'll be coming back to us, to me. I can't wait. I want us to finally get to live the lives we deserve to live, together. I want to get married, have children, continue to be Avengers, and see the world."
I kiss him on the forehead, cheeks, and lips (though his lips are quite faded) due the damage that was done to him. I sit alone in the room with his body for awhile before I summon Shuri to put it away for safe keeping for the night.
