Chapter 11

Pepper's POV

Another tragic event has just occurred. Peter Parker's aunt May (his only living relative), got killed in a hit and run car accident. The doctors did everything they could to revive her but it was too late. I called Peter and dismissed him early from school. He's currently sitting in my house sobbing while Morgan is doing her coursework (yes I homeschool her). To my surprise though, Thor showed up earlier and I guess he might be staying here too. With Happy and Rhodey being in and out too, it's a full house right now.

I have an idea that could either be a blessing in disguise or a really stupid one. I want to adopt Peter. Morgan really likes him and it would be nice to have another living soul in the house full time. I also think Morgan could benefit tremendously from having a fellow sibling who's a hero. She could have some guidance should she choose to follow in his footsteps. The only thing is that we might have to move back to the city. We can afford to do so thanks to some money Tony left us for living expenses. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Right now, I just need to let Peter grieve and be there for him.

I sit down on the couch and hold him as he cries into my chest. "First my uncle Ben, then Mr. Stark, and now my Aunt May. Two major deaths within the span of just a few weeks. I've lost all of my family Pepper. I don't know what to do. I haven't even graduated high school yet. My life is turned upside down beyond belief." Tears cloud my vision as I rock him back and forth as if he were a small child. "Part of the journey is the end. That's one of the last things that Tony ever said to me in a recording that I torture myself by playing more than I care to admit. Although some ventures eventually do come to an end, it also makes way for new ones. Which leads me to a proposition. Tony absolutely adored you. Scratch that, he loved you. As far as I'm concerned, you were his son for a few years. I also happen to be fond of you, which is why I want to adopt you."

He stops crying temporarily and looks at me absolutely stunned. "Really? Are you sure?" I nod. "I don't think I've ever been more sure other than when I married Tony and had Morgan. I want you to be a part of this family. I want to make you an official Stark. We're going to have to move back to the city soon due to you finishing up school and being the friendly neighborhood Spiderman. We can go to the town hall to file the adoption case tomorrow. I just need to hear you say yes as a confirmation so we can move forward with this. So what do you say Peter? Do you want to be my son?" He leaps into my arms and hugs me tighter than he ever has while continuing to cry. I laugh both out of joy and exhaustion. "I'll take that as a yes. Get some rest my sweet boy. I'll make you lunch after."

Peter falls asleep instantly on the couch. Bruce and Thor then come down the stairs hand in hand. My jaw drops to the floor. The two of them appear to be romantic with one another. Thor notices me staring and comes over to me. "Pepper, it's so good to see you. You appear to have a full house right now with guests going in and out. Are you sure you aren't running a bed and breakfast?" I laugh. "It sure feels like it but I do enjoy the company despite complaining about it at times. Spiderman is currently sleeping on my couch and I'm going to be adopting him. His aunt passed away in a fatal car accident today. He no longer has any living relatives so I'll have to move back into the city soon."

Bruce shyly pops out from behind Thor. "Hi Pepper, I think it's amazing that you're going to adopt Peter. I know how much Tony loved him and if he were still here, he'd be all for that decision. You're going to be a great mother to him. He only has a couple more years of schooling left and then he'll be the man of the household. As much as a twist of fate this situation may seem, this might be Tony coming back to you in some form." I smile softly at him. "I think you're right Bruce. By the way, congrats on your new relationship with Thor." He blushes. "Is it that obvious?" Thor's laughter rumbles throughout the kitchen. I giggle, motioning for him to be quiet since Peter is sleeping in the next room. He gets the memo and looks at me shyly which is a rarity for him. "My apologies Pepper. Yes Bruce and I are an item. I'm very happy about it as well."

We all end up having a late breakfast in the kitchen catching up with one another before going about our business for the day. For the first time since Tony died, I feel like I may be able to get back on track. I may have a chance at happiness again. Thank you Tony for watching over me. I love you so much. I wish you were here, I miss you like crazy. I don't think that's ever going to change though. I...I love you 3000.
