I cursed to myself and scrubbed at my pants after the juice fell all over it.

"I-I sorry Mr!" The little girl who ran into me said.

The anger that filled me instantly faded away, her face—oddly familiar face—was impossible to be mad at.

I bent down so I'd be at her level, "Nah it's ok, I actually think the juice makes me smell better," I joked causing her to laugh.

"Take this," I said, hanging her a five dollar bill.

Her eyes immediately lit up as she grabbed the money, "Thank you!" She said brightly.

"Janeah," a woman said as she walked up.

She was a beautiful brown skinned woman, her hair was left naturally curly and she carried a frantic aura with her.

"What did I tell you about talking to strangers!" She said sternly, causing the little girl to pout and run up to her.

"I'm sorry mommy," she said sadly.

"I don't want to hear i-"

"It's ok ma'am," I cut her off, I know it wasn't right to intrude on parents and their kids, but I felt connected to this little girl, she just looked so.....familiar.

"She was just apologizing for a small accident," I said politely.

She eyed my pants before a look of guilt broke out onto her face, "I'm so sorry!" She shook her head.

"She's so clumsy sometimes—listen, I-I don't have any money, is there anything else I can do?" She asked.

"Ma'am it's  fine, honestly." I smiled.

She nodded and muttered a low "thank you" before walking off with her daughter.

The little girl, Janeah, waved me goodbye with a toothy smile, 5 dollars still tightly in hand.

I waved back with a smile, chuckling to myself.

I had the urge to follow them, but I felt that was weird, maybe I'd seen someone that resembled her or something.

I gathered the rest of my things before leaving.

The moment I stepped into my car, my phone immediately rang—showing detective, or rather, Demetrius's contact.

"Hello," I answered.

"Yeah Joshua, this actually isn't a personal call—we have a lead." He revealed.

"Wow-, Uh really?" I asked, my heart picking up its pace.

"Yes sir, turns out you may be right—, Clarence may not be behind the murders." He spoke.

I nodded, "what made you change your mind."

"Well turns out Anthony Maddox was in discussions with the owner of a boating company a few weeks ago, Anchors Away, it's called." He revealed.
