I grabbed the chains holding Maria, but her father interrupted to destroy them instead. I didn't bother fighting with him on who got to free Maria, as long as she was free. I wrapped her in my arms and held her close to me, grateful to find her.
I let her go, pushing her towards the door. Her father grabbed me from behind, and suddenly I was swarmed by hunters. They all held me down as Henry wrapped my wrists in Maria's old chain. I struggled in his hold, but the chains were able to keep me at bay. He pushed me out the door, pulling Maria behind us.
"What the hell do you think you're doing? I asked.
"Making sure you don't attack everyone when she goes back into heat," Henry said.
I didn't believe him, but I knew Maria could get me out of the chains if needed. The hunters create a circle around us for protection, pushing the group forward to safety. Henry handed me to another hunter, taking hold of Maria's arm to bring her into the sunlight.
Maria didn't shrug him off like I had expected, but I figured the heat had made her too weak to fight back. I hated to think she was suffering and there was nothing I could do.
We were halfway out of the woods when Maria hunched over in pain. The hunters all grabbed hold of me as Henry tried to keep her moving forward, but she couldn't move. The smell of the heat hit me and I felt my shift come forth, pushing forward to get to Maria with all my strength.
The hunters lost a few feet to my sudden movement and tried to yank me away from Maria to the best of their ability. They really walked into this situation unprepared, because if they had their items, they would've just stuck a tranquilizer in me and left me in the hunters den.
"Maria," I cooed.
The wolf was speaking, and I couldn't stop it. Maria turned to look at me, her own red eyes showing through. Henry looked slightly panicked, seeing as there were two alphas, and all the men he had were currently trying to hold me back.
"I can stop your pain if you let me," I said.
"Shut up," Maria growled.
"That feisty nature will make for some great se-" I was interrupted by a hunter shoving a jacket over my mouth and then forcing his hand over the jacket so I couldn't bite him.
A crackle in leaves came from my side, and the hunters all whipped around to see what it was. I spot Isaac out of the corner of my eye and watched as one of the hunters got nervous and fired a shot in his direction.
I screamed, but it was muffled by the jacket. Isaac moved out of the way, but it was a very close shot. I started trying to force the hunters off of me, and in the process, I knocked a few of them over. I didn't care. The chains fell off my arms, freeing me.
The jacket fell from my face and I forced my way over to Isaac, leaving the hunters behind, "Are you good?"
"I wasn't just murdered, "Isaac shot the hunters a pointed look, "If that's what you mean."
I heard Maria groan and the wolf came back into control, causing Isaac to grab me, "You yelled at me, so I physically can't shift because of her heat. I'm here to help you not murder her."
"Murder that pus-" I was interrupted.
"If you hurt her, in any way, she's going to hate you. You need to snap out of this and figure out a way to make yourself calm so we can help her." Isaac held me by the shoulders.
I took deep breaths, but it didn't matter because every time Maria made any noise the wolf came back into control. Isaac walked up to Maria, offering his hand. I nearly ripped his head off for trying to touch her, but he helped her to her feet and then put her into my arms, so he was able to keep his head.
