"I didn't!" I held my hands up to block her from hitting me, "I swear!"
"This is from your teeth, isn't it?" Maria growled.
"I mean, yes they're my teeth, but I didn't propose to you." I shook my head so fast I made myself dizzy.
"It's not really a proposal. It's more like a promise ring," Isaac said shyly.
"Well I don't fucking want it!" Maria yelled.
I could feel my body become heavy despite gravity not changing. With each breath, it was like I was gaining weight. Then, I felt my chest become hollow. My hands hung lifelessly at my sides, and I couldn't force them to move.
I sat down in the living room, hoping that not needing to hold my body up would make me feel better, but it didn't. I laid down and turned my back to the rest of the room. Maybe if I forget I'm a living being, I can stop feeling like one.
"He can be mad all he fucking wants. He took my choice away from me," Maria spoke with venom lacing her tone.
"He didn't know what he was doing. You can't blame him for that," Isaac said, growing angry with Maria.
I listened as footsteps made their way outside. The snow crunched beneath shoes, and I tried to tune out the noise. I drifted off after the noise did. I woke up numb, unable to tell where my body existed and where it didn't. I didn't move for at least an hour after waking up.
I listened for heartbeats and only heard one, feeling safe to get up. I found Isaac trying to figure out how to work the dishwasher. I had to shove him aside and do it for him to avoid the secondhand embarrassment he was giving me.
I found my phone and took it back to the table to make myself busy. I wasted an ungodly amount of time playing games I didn't even really like. My stomach began rumbling, and I put the phone down to find something to eat. The second food hit my tongue, I spit it out. It was disgusting, and I didn't even want it anyway.
I went back to my spot on the couch, drifting off to sleep once more. I woke up feeling tired. I checked my phone and ignored every message to go back to playing games. I wasn't feeling up for any human interaction, but they didn't need to know that.
Someone stomped through the door, kicking off their shoes as they did. Isaac's shirt ruffled like he was crossing his arms, but I didn't feel like rolling over to see the interaction.
"It's gone?" Maria whispered.
"Well that explains why Dylan has been acting like a wet mop all day. You rejected him," Isaac said.
"What?" Maria asked.
"You said you didn't want the mark. Your wolf got that and got rid of it. You're free, congrats," Isaac mumbled.
"What does that have to do with him?" She asked.
"His wolf heard it too."
Maria walked slowly over to where I laid on the couch and I shut my eyes, hoping she would get the message. Her small hand touched my bicep and I shrugged her off. I thought it was pretty obvious that I'd like to be left alone, so she couldn't be upset when I acted exactly how I was expected to.
She didn't make another move to touch me, and I was glad she didn't, but she didn't move away and that pissed me off. She knelt beside the couch. Her breathing was annoying. Everything about her was frustrating. Go the hell away.
