"Please don't," I whispered, not convincing anyone.
"Why is she ignoring me?" Isaac asked, sounding like a small child.
"Because I'm hot, that's why." I smirked.
"No. I'm the hot friend." Isaac crossed his arms over his chest.
"The wolf, dumbass," Maria mumbled with all the food in her mouth.
Isaac's eyes widened like he had a revelation, "Of course that's what it is."
I rolled my eyes, but it made sense. We all knew Isaac was the hot friend and I was supposed to be the dorky friend that made him look good. I heard the waitress coming back, and so did Maria.
She turned in my lap to face me, putting a piece of her food in my mouth. I took it, not sure why she decided to share. I was sure I looked confused, because Maria said, "I just want to be nice."
I ignored her being weird and went back to eating my own food. The waitress put the napkins on the table and Maria didn't tear her eyes away from me to bother looking at the waitress.
"Thanks," I mumbled, giving the waitress a small smile.
She returned my smile, "Anything else, handsome?"
"A check," Maria spoke for me.
"Sorry, I was speaking to him." The waitress point at me.
"Am I not handsome?" Maria asked.
The waitress left and Maria shook her head at me, "I was trying to shut you up."
"That makes more sense. You're not just nice," I found myself laughing at her attempt to keep me silent.
"At least someone is trying to be nice to you," Isaac grumbled.
"Will you shut up?" I asked.
"Shove food in his mouth," Maria recommended.
I pushed her off my lap, getting up to pay the bill. The waitress leaned over the counter, batting her eyelashes in my direction. I wanted it to be over, so I decided to try something new.
"I'm trying to be a good wingman, so what do you think of my friend?" I asked.
"He isn't my type," She purred.
"That's a shame." I handed her my money.
"I prefer brunets." She smiled.
"His hair is naturally brown if that makes a difference," I said, trying to ignore her.
"No, it doesn't." She handed me back my money, her hand lingering over mine.
"Do you have any dessert I can get for my girl, I totally forgot to ask," I said, switching my plan since the last one didn't work.
The waitress led me to some kind of cake stand, "Take your pick."
I had no idea what flavor Maria would like, so I just pointed at something randomly. It looked like a monstrosity of chocolate that could rot teeth with every bite. The waitress took it out of the stand, bringing it back to the register.
"I'm willing to make a trade, "The waitress said, "If you'll give me your number."
"I'll pay, thanks," I said.
Maria came up behind me, clearly tired of listening in. Isaac followed, looking anywhere but the waitress. I put my arm over Maria's shoulder, pulling her into my side. I took the cake, presenting it to Maria.
"Thanks," Maria said, looking over the cake.
"Anything for you Maria." I smiled as wide as possible.
