Maria
My father picked me up from the school and sandwiched me in the back of his car between two hunters. They didn't seem to like me very much, but I was their greatest enemy for years. It made sense that they saw me as a hassle.
I was brought to the building that I assumed was the hunter hideout. My father led the group inside and started pulling out maps and things for me to use to show him where the wolves were.
"I'm going to bring you there," I insisted.
"We made technology to be able to see and hear like the wolves we're fighting to level the playing field, but they're still dangerous. It's not safe for you. They're a lot stronger than you," My father said.
"They are not stronger," I said before I realized my mistake.
The hunters looked at me and narrowed their eyes, unhappy with my slip.
"I can defend myself and I'm going," I said with finality.
My father rolled his eyes, but gave me equipment and allowed me to sit in the passenger seat to give directions. I was in a situation I never expected myself to be in, leading a group of hunters to kill wolves.
I had a moment of doubt about what I was doing, but even if I was a wolf, I would be going after these rogues anyway. I warned them, and I keep my promises.
My father pulled up to the motel I had stayed at. I dropped out of the car and found myself being pulled inside. I knew I wasn't ready to see what was in there, but I needed to know. I found her room and a few pictures inside. I took them for myself and shoved them in my pockets, careful not to rip them.
I made my way outside and signaled the men to follow me. My father found his way by my side, and the rest of the men fell into a formation. I was used to being alone, so it was weird to have them tailing me.
I led them to the tents that the rogues inhabited. I yelled for them to come out. The one I met first came out and brought his people with him.
"Alpha Maria, we didn't expect to see you so soon," He said awkwardly, rubbing his neck.
"Something isn't right," One wolf said.
"The alpha is with hunters?"
"She doesn't smell like a wolf."
"Does the alpha have a twin?"
"I warned you about hurting the townspeople. Do you remember what I said?" I asked, interrupting them.
"You said that we would alert the hunters, which is why we've been packing up. We're trying to move away from this town so we don't cause any problems," One wolf explained.
I pulled the photo out of my pocket, "Did you kill this woman."
They all shook their heads no, but one of them seemed to be shaking a little too much. I walked closer, getting in their face.
"Tell me the truth," I snarled.
"I don't answer to humans," The wolf replied.
I felt a wave of deja vu hit me, remembering that I had once said the same thing to Dylan. I didn't like how this felt, and I'm sure he didn't appreciate it very much either.
"You'll answer to her or you'll die," The hunter behind me called out.
He was going to die either way. There was no point in him admitting the murder. I needed an answer, so I wasn't going to let the son of a bitch die until I got what I wanted.
"I went to her motel to stay the night, hoping that I could get a real meal instead of the crap I've had to eat out here. She wouldn't shut up about someone named Dakota, and it was pissing me off. I killed her," The wolf smiled, "And I enjoyed it."
