Maria giggled, her body laughing with her. I could feel myself smile at her ridiculous behavior. I played with strands of her hair while she reached blindly for the water Isaac had thrown.
"You're lucky I got you two together," Isaac said smugly.
"You did not." I rolled my eyes at him.
"I told Maria you thought she was the hottest piece of ass in this town, and then y'all started fucking, so you're welcome." Isaac crossed his arms over his chest.
"I'm pretty sure you're leaving a few things out." Maria took a sip of water, "But I could be wrong, so don't mind me."
"No, I'm pretty sure that's how the story went." Isaac turned on his heels and left.
Maria blinked slowly, the exhaustion clearly taking control of her body. Soon enough, she had fallen asleep. I looked over her skin, dirty thoughts racing through my mind as I did so. I was able to push those thoughts to the back of my mind to drift off to sleep.
I woke up to the sound of multiple pairs of footsteps making their way to the door. I slid Maria off my body slowly to try not to wake her up, but I was unsuccessful. I threw my pants on, giving Maria a signal to stay in the room.
The door to the cabin was forced open and Isaac came stumbling inside as if he was pushed. I held him upright and greet the posy of wolves that stood outside. Maria came up behind me despite what I said and looked over the wolves.
"You're trespassing," Said the largest of the wolves.
"Who is your alpha?" Maria asked.
"Kiernan," The wolf replied.
"If there is a problem, he can deal with it himself," Maria said.
"You can leave now, or there will be a problem," The wolf spoke.
"My name is alpha Maria, descendant of alpha Tyler Rivera. We are currently fleeing hunters."
"Hunters are your issue and you shouldn't be leading them here," The wolf said through clenched teeth.
"The goal is that they won't be able to find us here douchbags," Isaac said, flinching back as they looked at him.
"Why are an alpha and two wolves fleeing?" Another wolf asked.
"Do not disrespect the other alpha in this room," Maria warned.
"Dylan," I introduced myself.
"Alpha Dylan," Maria corrected.
The wolves seemed to lose steam facing two alphas instead of the one they had originally known about.
"And I'm his fucking right hand that you were dragging around," Isaac said, pushing his luck.
"We will inform the alpha of your," The wolf paused, "Predicament."
With that, they turned on their heels and left. Isaac brushed his clothes off and gave the back of their heads the finger. I shut the door and looked to Isaac to explain the situation we were just in.
"I went to grab groceries because this house is damn near empty, and next thing I know I was grabbed. I told them my alpha was here and they could take it up with you." Isaac shrugged.
We started pulling things out of the cabinets and attempted to make due with what we had, but with our lack of culinary skills, there was nothing to be made. Maria shoved us aside and started cooking. She swayed as she cooked and I assumed she was still exhausted from heat.
I walked up behind her to make sure she wouldn't fall, holding her up by wrapping my arms around her. I placed a kiss to her neck and pressed the side of my head against hers to watch as she worked. When the food was finished, I helped her dish it out and Isaac started shoving food in his mouth before everyone had the chance to take a seat.
"I think we can leave after meeting with the alpha. It would be best to get to know him for future reference," Maria spoke to me.
"What about your dad?" I asked.
"It's best we leave within a time of four to five days of being missing. The first few days he's furious and would most likely try to hunt us down, but waiting too long will cause him to try to kill us when we return."
"Can I just say, I hate your dad," Isaac said through a mouth full of food.
"That's fair," Maria said quietly.
Her eyes had become older since we had met, I noticed it now. Her face held a gray color that wasn't present before, and she had a constant look of defeat plastered under her eyes. I held her hand in mine and rubbed over the back of it to try to console her.
Isaac flicked something in my direction and I turned my head very slowly to give him time to apologize. I could see him holding back a smile, so I knew I had no other choice than to throw something back. The food was headed directly for his face, so he ducked and it just barely missed him.
A single eye looked above the table to check to make sure the coast was clear, and then he was running. I kissed the top of Maria's head and walked after him. He hadn't pulled this shit since I'd become a wolf, and I was more than ready to win my first match.
He stood defensively behind the couch and looked around wildly in search of a weapon to use against me. I didn't need a weapon anymore because I was the weapon. I felt my ego grow as I watched him flail around to find a way to attack.
For a long time, his only attack was sitting on my back or forcing disgusting things in my face. He wouldn't have the chance to do either of these things now and seemed panicked to be in a fair fight. I crossed my arms over my chest as I wait.
Isaac grabbed a pillow from the couch and threw it at me. I caught it and lunged towards the couch. I hopped over the back and started pelting Isaac with hits from the pillow. He covered his head and started trying to kick at my legs to knock me over. I jumped away from him, running to go stand behind Maria.
"Come back here and fight like a man!" Isaac called out.
I played with her hair and he slowly walked out to the kitchen, turning the corners so quickly he would throw himself off balance. He stood tall and puffed his chest out as if he didn't just lose to the one person he had beat up his entire life.
"Quit hiding behind her and get over here!" Isaac said, pointing at me like it would make a difference.
Maria grabbed her plate and stood up to put it in the sink. I let go of her hair and moved out of the way. Her chair screeched against the wooden floors, and I watched as she fell backward. The plate slipped from her hand, clattering to the floor and breaking into tiny pieces.
I dropped to the floor and pulled Maria into my lap. Her body was cold, and I shook her lightly to try to wake her up. Isaac ran outside and grabbed a bucket of snow. I grabbed a small amount and pressed it into her head, not really sure what to do.
"This is taking too damn long," Isaac said.
He picked up the bucket and dumped the contents over Maria. I felt my breath get caught in my throat as she still didn't move. Shaking her was doing nothing, and I felt myself grow frustrated, shaking her a little harder. I was worried I was going to break her, so I stopped.
I felt her neck for a pulse and felt comforted by the throbbing hitting my fingers. I could hear her heartbeat, but I guessed habit forced me to do it. There wasn't anything else we could've done to get her to wake up but wait.
I pushed her hair out of her face and looked for any other signs of life. Besides breathing, none of her muscles were moving. I trailed my fingers down her cheek and her neck hoping that the contact could stir something inside her.
The bite mark on her neck had stopped healing and looked like a scar against her skin. I felt guilty seeing as that she was stuck with it now that her human body wouldn't be strong enough to get rid of it. I ran my thumb over it and felt a spark of energy rush through my fingers.
Maria took in a giant breath, sitting up straight and looking around to see where she was. I brushed the ice off her clothes and pulled her further into my lap and held her to try to warm her up. She seemed slightly groggy, and it was beginning to fade with time.
Her hoarse voice broke the silence of the room, "Who are you?"
