Y/N'S POV
As Hailey was out somewhere, I thought that now was a good time to try to have a talk with Justin. Justin had been the best friend, whom I never once hesitated to come to when I needed someone to irritate. I also wasn't sure how much time I had left with him. He was happy with Hailey and I was beyond happy for him, yet I could not shake off the fact that what if I slipped from being an important person in his life?
He, gracefully, played the piano and I lightly tapped his shoulder saying,"Bieber?"
Justin turned around and studied me. I shifted uncomfortably, knowing he was great at reading me.
However, he noticed I had became a little awkward and sent me an apologetic smile saying,"I'm sorry, Y/N, but you're giving yourself away right now. Whenever you call me by my last name and you look like that, something is on your mind. What's on your mind?"
I didn't actually think I'd make it this far, without an interruption. Since I had my chance to speak on what had been bothering me, I was going to take it.
I rested my hands on my hips and questioned him,"Are you actually happy with Hailey? Everything good?"
Justin ran his fingers through his hair and replied,"Yes, I am very happy with her. I hope I haven't given off otherwise. Everything's fine. Why are you asking me this?"
I, then, asked him,"Does she make you happier than me, your best friend?"
Justin was the one who shifted uncomfortably this time and answered,"N/N, that's not a fair question. I wouldn't want to make either of you upset. I love both of you."
I sighed and said,"I'm sorry, Justin. I know you have the best intentions. I love you, too, but the truth is: I'm afraid of where I'll stand with you when you two figure out what's next. You know, kids and all.."
Justin said,"You are one sentimental person, you know that?"
I gently punched his shoulder and said,"Justin, I'm serious. Don't make fun of me; not now."
He chuckled and pulled me down to sit next to him. Justin looked over at me, and my eyes met his own.
He wrapped an arm around me and said,"I wasn't making fun of you. I was complimenting you. Y/N, I can't make promises for what the future will look like for both of us, but I can promise you that I would never have you second guessing how much you mean to me. You're my best friend, and I've known you my whole life, so there's no way I could push you aside. Plus, you'd beat me up for it."
I laughed and he did, too, before he removed his arm from around me.
He held out his fist and said,"The only way we make this work is if we both make the effort to be there for each other. You up for keeping this friendship alive?"
I gave him a fist bump and he smiled, before he placed a kiss on my forehead. I kissed his cheek in return and hugged his waist.
I said,"I love you, Justin Drew Bieber."
He replied,"I love you, too, Y/N M/N L/N."
Justin returned my hug, before I waited until Hailey returned. I greeted her and Justin sent me a wink, before I went home.
........
It had been a year since that talk Justin and I had shared. We both did the best we could to remain best friends, even though it had its challenges. Justin was a busy man and I never wanted to be annoying, so I had to make sure I gave him a reasonable amount of space. He had to do the same for me.
At this particular moment, time was not on my side. I was engaged now, and somehow, my fiance ended up in a bad car accident. His condition was not looking too good right now, but I had to remain positive for myself and his family. As everyone was in the waiting area, I paced back and forth, and I couldn't sit still. Every moment felt like it was slipping away too quickly. I needed Rick, my fiance, to be okay.
"Excuse me?"
I turned and there, Justin stood, holding Hailey's hand.
I hugged them both and Justin said,"I figured this would be a moment you needed your best friend."
I laughed and replied,"That, you're correct, Justin. That you're correct."
