Maxie found himself a little bit too conscious of how close he was to the other boy. Every brush of their arms, every time their knees met, every time the other boy touched him. It was like he was all too sensitive to Oscar and this made it harder to relax.

They'd finished their pizza and now they were making their way through a Netflix show although Maxie's mind was elsewhere. He could barely concentrate on what was going on.

"So, what do you plan to do while everyone is away? Throw some parties, or what?" Oscar finally asked, snapping his current companion back to attention.

Maxie blinked as his eyes readjusted to Oscar's smile. "Trying to get some business out of me?" He teased with a small smirk. "Everyone's kind of away so I don't think I'd have anyone to party with."

"Am I not a good enough guy to party with?" Oscar challenged with a playful cock of his brow.

"If your idea of a party is watching TV and eating pizza then I'd say you're decent," he returned.

Oscar turned, his arm lingering on the back of the couch. "I mean, I could do better. Make this a real party if you want."

Maxie took note of how close they became once Oscar turned his body. It sent nerves through his body, exciting him.

"Why do you look so worried?" Oscar asked with a laugh, his head tipping back. He soothed himself with a breath and softened his expression, bringing his hand to Maxie's shoulder, giving it a little squeeze. "Chill."

"I don't ever want to find out what your kind of party is. If it ends up in a dark alley or passing out naked, I'm good," Maxie attempted jokingly.

"Oh really? Didn't like what you saw?"

"I was trying not to look," he lied.

Oscar rolled his eyes playfully. "Yeah, yeah."

"Oh what? You still think I have a crush on you?"

A stern look passed over Oscar's expression but it slowly dissolved. "You know I didn't mean that when I said it. It was stupid of me."

"Damn right it was. I hope you think I'd have enough dignity to be attracted to someone who is actually nice to me."

"Wasn't I nice before then?"

Maxie paused. He had been. He was entirely sure how to take that. "You were... strange."

"Right back at you. You're an incredibly awkward guy."

"Its part of my charm," Maxie said with a shrug.

"I agree."

The conversation came to a halt. For a brief moment their eyes connected, engaging severely. Between their gazes they found a mutual understanding. The moment was over too quickly, though, he felt.

"Are you even watching this anymore?" Maxie asked, nodding his head towards the TV.

"Nah," Oscar admitted, picking up his phone and checking his notifications. "I'm not really in the mood to watch anything anymore."

"Okay," Maxie replied, picking up the remote to turn it off. "What do you want to do? We could play something? If you're even into video games..."

"We could go for a drink?"

Maxie wasn't expecting that. He hadn't considered anything like that. "I don't know if I should."

"I'd pay," Oscar added. There was something cheeky in his eyes as they glinted.

Admittedly tempting, Maxie thought.

"I'm not exactly looking my best today." Correction, he'd tried hard to look good and he was still unhappy with the product.
