Maxie returned to Gwen and they walked home. The mood for that night was killed but they'd managed to have a good time for the majority of it. Even the walk home was good. They'd chatted and she'd helped him get over the moment he'd shared with Oscar. Well, maybe not get over it, but it was a distraction at least.

Although, it appeared that Gwen was more perceptive than he gave her credit for. She's walked him to his door, as he was closer to the club than she was.

"That boy. I couldn't place where I saw him and then I remembered. He was the blonde one at the cafe- he was the boy you liked, wasn't he?"

He sighed and nodded.

"He was the boy that was looking at you tonight."

This no longer came as a surprise but it couldn't help but steal an inner reaction from him. "I thought that was Adrian."

"No, there was two guys. Adrian was clearly into you but I think Oscar, that was his name, right? He noticed you before that. He looked like he wanted to come over before that. Like he had something to say."

It was more and more and more, just piling on him. Whatever was going on was inescapable. He wanted to just drop out of this whole scenario but it was hard to abandon when it came at him from all angles. He was starting to think his previous method of just avoiding all his problems was a much better idea than facing them.

Or maybe the world was trying to provoke him to finally react.

"I'll see you on Monday?" Gwen asked.

"Yeah, you will. Text me when you get home," Maxie said to her, bringing her in for a hug before she left.

They parted ways and he headed inside.

He headed through the living room and into the kitchen.

Chloe was up, watching something like a movie downstairs. "Hey."

"Hi," he said, continuing to walk and going about his business.

"How was your night?" Chloe asked.

"It was good. Came home early."

"Why?"

He poured himself a glass of water and went to sit on the couch. "I guess we were done."

"Did anything happen?"

Okay, this was starting to feel like an interrogation. Maybe he was just on edge in this house, paranoid. "Did you hear anything?"

"Yeah, apparently you tried to get with someone."

His stomach turned at the mention of that. "I didn't try to get with anyone. Someone tried to kiss me. He did kiss me. How do you know that?" He had a sneaky feeling he did know how.

"Emmett mentioned something on the group chat."

Of course there was a group chat and of course he was straight on there. That boy was beginning to rile him up and if he didn't stop, he'd intervene and make him.

"And that's anyone's business because? I don't really like being talked about like that."

"But you're allowed to talk about us?"

Olivia was in the middle of the doorway.

He became claustrophobic, like there wasn't enough space in the room, like the walls were closing in on him.

"We know what you said about Emmett. Him trying to force himself upon you. That's what you told Chloe. And Daisy."

Maxie stood up again. "I didn't say he forced himself upon me, I said he tried to kiss me and I didn't want it. I pulled away and he kept trying. That's what happened."
