Rudy's Point of View
Today is the day that grandma may go to jail. Sitting behind my parents, I watched my frightened brother in front. I can feel his pessimistic energy. "You got this, Vincent!" I quietly cheered. He gave me a thumbs up and his usual, fearless smile. The courtroom immediately turned silent as the judge made his way to his seat. "Who's that?" My little sister asked, pointing at the heavy-set man. "That's the judge." I replied, examining the courtroom. Standing beside the judge's podium were two bailiffs. One was a mid-aged female and the other was an older man. They both looked scary. "All rise!" The male officer ordered with his powerful voice. The entire courtroom stood to their feet. "The court of Ghim is now in session, the Honorable Judge Ghim presiding." The man's voice sent chills through my spine. "So powerful." I sighed softly in an allured tone. The judge whispers something to the female bailiff. "Your Honor, today's case is Holmes v. Fitz." The judge nodded at her statement and ordered everyone to sit. "So Mr. Holmes, you are accusing Miss Fitz of tampering with business funds that led to your bankruptcy, yes?" Grandpa nodded and adjusted his tie. "Yes, sir." The judge looked over to grandma with a disgusted look. "And you Miss wanted to sue him for a heartbreak, is that correct?" Grandma smiled and frantically nodded. "Yes, sir!" Whispers erupted throughout the crowd. "Can she really do that?" Asked the person next to my sister. "Let's just see how this case goes." Judge Gihm muttered to himself.✧ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✦✧✦ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✧
"May it please the court and ladies and gentlemen of the jury, my name is Patrick Marsh, counsel for Mr. Holmes in this action." A familiar looking man with silver hair stood up. He looked a little too young for silver hair. His violet eyes illuminated beautifully under the courtroom's chandelier. It was hard for me not to get hypnotized. "Mr. Holmes, would you like to retell the story of why we're here today?" Grandpa stood up and straightened his posture. "Yes, sir." He cleared his throat and retold the story. The courtroom erupted in whispers again. It was my first time hearing the story, so I felt disgusted. I can't believe Grandpa married someone like that. Grandpa opens his briefcase and held up a manila folder. "Your Honor, I have bank documents and police reports regarding the bankruptcy." The female bailiff crossed the chocolate wood and retrieved the folder. She nearly tripped on her shoes on the way back. The judge's eyes thoroughly examined the folder. "What's this?" He asked, holding up an old compact-disk. "I'm sorry for not mentioning it earlier, Your Honor. That's legal footage of Fitz v. Holmes back in 1987." The judge whispered to the bailiffs and they nodded in unison. They disappeared in the back room and retrieved a television. The TV was a lot smaller than ours and was hooked to two devices. The female bailiff placed the CD inside of one of the devices. The 1987 trial played on the TV. Everyone in the courtroom studied it closely, even me. Once the TV turned off, the courtroom erupted in whispers again.

As the trial went on, I noticed mom's posture. Instead of being elegant as usual, she was almost folded into a ball. I feel so bad for her. "Now the defendant may speak!" The judge's voice boomed. "Sorry for not introducing myself earlier." A younger man bowed. "I am Koshi Hugo, the counsel for Miss Fitz!" The judge rolled his eyes in an irritated manner. "Mr. Hugo, you were supposed to give your introduction immediately after the plaintiff. Don't you know proper courtroom etiquette?!" It was very obvious that the judge was peeved. His displeased attitude sent me shaking in my seat. "I'm so sorry, your honor." The man said with sarcasm. "Didn't you learn that in law school, sir?" Mr. Marsh asked, teasingly. The judge laughed quietly to himself. "He most likely failed that part." He muttered. "I can hear you!" Mr. Hugo yelled. The judge cleared his throat and motioned the defendant to deliver. "Your honor, Miss Fitz is a lovely woman. There is no reason for her to be put under so many charges." Everyone in the courtroom groaned in unison. It was obvious that no one was buying that. "Mr. Hugo, did you even watch the recording?" The judge asked, annoyed with the man. "Yes, sir. She wasn't doing anything wrong." He replied hastily. "Bribing the judge with five million won is unacceptable!" Mr. Marsh said. "What proof?!" Grandma jumped up. The judge examined the files in his hand once more. "It says here that the judge received the five million after you won the case, Miss Fitz." Everyone in the courtroom gasped, except for grandpa who was smiling. "When did we receive that piece of information?" My father whispered. Grandpa laughed to himself and gave my dad a pat on the back. "It was in the bank statements." My father's face was an expression that I've never witnessed before: shock.

I was utterly convinced that we've been sitting in this courtroom for hours. "When is it over?!" My little sister groaned as she rested her sleepy head on my lap. "It'll be over soon, V." I replied, stroking her dark hair. "I would like to hear from the child." The judge's voice boomed. His gavel was pointed directly at Vincent. Vincent slowly walked to the witness podium. I've never witnessed my brother being so uncomfortable. "Young man, I would like for you to deliver your testimony regarding Miss Fitz." Vincent took a big gulp and let out a small sigh. "Your Honor, I've never met my grandma until today. I met my grandfather yesterday." Whispers erupted again. "Where are your parents?" The judge asked, scanning the room. "They are right over there." Vincent pointed his index finger towards mom and dad. The judge studied them carefully. "Weren't you the business man's son who was supposed to marry Glam Choi's student?" He asked. What is he talking about? Did he love someone other than mom? "It was an arranged marriage from my father. I canceled it because I wanted to marry the woman I love, Y/N Han." Awws erupted in the courtroom. Few of the ladies nearby were wiping their tears. "Well, glad you are happy." The judge muttered, neatly stacking the papers that were given to him hours ago. "Why hasn't this boy met his grandparents earlier?" Mom stood up. "I know my son is twelve and never met his grandparents. It was my doing." She stood up and raised an old composition notebook above her head. "My mother, Alexandra Fitz, tortured both me and my brother. My brother was named Vincent Holmes and he took his life." She set the journal in the judge's palm. The judge flipped through the journal then paused. "There's a CD taped to the back." My mom shook her head in confusion. "What?!" The judge gave the bailiff to put in the device that was hooked up to the TV.

The video opened with a young man. He looked about sixteen or seventeen. He shared the same eyes as Y/N. "Hey Y/N, if you're watching this I am dead." The boy started. "There were many factors that led to my end. Yes, I did fight James for trying to rape you. And yes, he did wound me badly." The judge paused the disk. "Who is James?" My mother turned towards grandma. "James Neil Scott. My mother's affair." The whispers were more frantic than usual. "You brought a pedophile into your house when you have children?!" I can sense that grandma was going away for a long time. The judge has caught so many crimes that she has done. The judge pressed play to continue the disk. "My journal consists of all my thoughts and feelings while living. I enjoyed living with you and Papa, but Mama always brings evil into the room. I'm sorry that you and Papa can't come with me. I want you two to live and succeed. As for Mama, I love her. But she needs to exorcise the evil." The video stopped.

"We made our final decision." The jury said hastily. "I didn't let you guys out to discuss." The judge replied, confused. "I believe everyone in the courtroom is on the same page, your honor." With the way this trial was going, there was no way for grandma to win. "Out with it." The defendant's lawyer ordered. "We find the defendant guilty of all charges." The jury delivered. Everyone in the courtroom cheered. "Miss Alexandra Fitz, you are hereby sentenced to life under child abuse, embezzlement, and money laundering."
