*This is currently taking place when Bakugo and Izuku are 4 years old*

Bakugo had developed his quirk, and he was awesome, he loved to show off and he loved the attention. He had been blessed with the coolest quirk of all the children his age. However, his friend, who had called Deku, was quirkless. The other kids made fun of him for that, and shamefully Bakugo did too. However, when they were alone, he tried to be nice to Deku. Tried.

I came to the only place where I could relax, and be away from all the mean kids in my class, and away from my home, where my father still was. If I could still call him that anyways. I stare out onto the stream, which reflected the orange sky as the sun was setting. I was sitting on top of the small hill, leaning against a cherry blossom tree. It was my favorite tree, it was large and covered in beautiful flowers, and on breezy days the petals would fall gently into the wind as if it were raining flowers. I inhaled the sweet scent, which soothed me. I had run away from home, as my dad was angry with me. Tears welled in my eyes as I remembered what happened.

Izuku and his father were home alone, as Inko was currently returning home from a long day at work. Izuku was elated to have his mother home and was so excited he wanted to surprise her. "Dad, can I make Mommy a treat?" Izuku asked, his eyes beaming. Hisashi glanced at him, "No", he was drunk, or high, or both (definitely both) and wanted to be left alone. "I can do it! I don't need help!" Izuku exclaimed, running into the kitchen on his own. He wanted to make his mother some cookies as a treat. He pushed his step stool over to where he knew Inko had kept her glass baking bowls, however, he was the smallest bit too short to grasp it properly. It had shattered on the floor. "WHAT THE FUCK?! THE HELL did you DO?!" Hisashi yelled as he stumbled into the kitchen, whiskey sloshing out of the bottle as he walked. As soon as he saw the broken glass on the floor, he lost it. He unleashed his fire breath quirk and it burned Izuku's knees. Izuku burst into turns and fell to the floor in pain, subsequently getting glass shards in his hands. His father lifted him by the wrist, so the small boy was eye level with him, "God you're so fucking useless", and he dropped him and kicked him away. "All you do is fuck things up, can't do anything without help, that's why your quirkless" He didn't need to spit fire at Izuku for the words to burn, but he did anyway, leaving small burns on his son. In all the commotion, neither of the males had noticed the front door open. "Hisashi! What did you just do to our son?!" Inko shouted, angerly. Hisashi whipped around, "Nothing he doesn't deserve". With that World War III had commenced under the Midoriya roof. Izuku was terrified at the shouting of his parents and he ran away, crying and screaming. He wanted to get away, he needed to get away

I felt awful, I wailed to myself, in pain, physically and mentally. I really was useless...I heard footsteps and immediately went silent. Blonde spiky hair and piercing red eyes popped around from the side of the tree. It was Kacchan. I hiccuped from all my crying before speaking, which made me stutter, "O-oh h-hi, Kacchan".

I was looking at Deku, he looked awful. His hands were bleeding and he had burns all over him. I was genuinely concerned. He always has gotten some kind of scrape or cut trying to keep up with me, but this was different, really different. "Are you okay? What happened" I asked him gently, sitting down next to him. "Uhh...n-nothing! I mean! I fell! I mean I trippe-" He started babbling but I immediately cut him off "C'mon Deku, you're a terrible liar. What happened, you can tell me, honestly." He looked up at me, his green eyes meeting mine, and he immediately started crying. "My d-dad hit me a-a-and bur-burned me! He said I was useless! He's right! I can't do any-anything ri-right!" His sobs shook his whole body and he put his head between his knees. I was shocked, I had almost never seen his father, and when I did, he looked as if he could barely stand, but I never expected this. I scooted in the grass so I was sitting directly in front of him, and I lifted his face up to mine, "I'm sorry, you're not useless..." I said looking into his eyes, hoping he would see my honesty. He averted his eyes, "Yeah right....", tears still streaming down his face. "No! You're not useless, you're awesome too! I'll protect you from now on, from the kids at school and from your dad, I promise...I promise I'll always protect you Deku!" He was no looking me in the eyes, he had stopped crying but his face was still tear-stained and his eyes were red and puffy "Oh Kacchan, do you mean that?" I nodded and said yes. He quickly hugged me and said "And you'll always be my hero! I promise." I smiled and hugged him back, then I stood up and gently grabbed his wrist, "C'mon I'll take you home with me and my mom can help you with your cuts". He sniffed and wiped his face with his hands and nodded, and we walked to my house, I was still holding onto his wrist when I opened my door.
