"I Declare To You That Woman Must Not Depend On The Protection Of Man, But Must Be Taught To Protect Herself."

Kennedy's Pov
It's somewhere around eight-thirty and I just took a shower. I slipped on a pair of black sweatpants and a pale pink tank top. I threw my hair into some type of messy bun or tumbleweed or ball of mess. I don't really know, I'm just tired.

After Jason left this morning I spent the rest of the day cleaning, studying, and dreading that tomorrow is Monday. Dad and Diane are already in their room. I don't really know if Diane changed dads opinion on Jason or not.

I grabbed my phone and walked downstairs to the kitchen for a snack. I read somewhere that you shouldn't eat before bed but honestly a couple of grapes has never killed anybody. At least I don't think they have.

As I'm getting the grapes out of the fridge my phone starts ringing on the counter. I leave the fridge open because that's the only light I have. I'm too lazy to turn on the actual lights. I picked up the phone and stand next to the fridge door, eating grapes.

"Hey Danny. What's up?" I answered.

"Do you have any plans next weekend? Like not this weekend coming but the weekend after." He asked. I shrugged, even though he can't see me.

"None that I know of. Why?" I answered.

"Me and Jason are going to West Virginia for a family reunion and I thought it'd be fun for you to come." He said.

"Danny, you want me to crash your family reunion after knowing me for what, two weeks?" I asked popping another grape in my mouth.

"Well by next weekend it'll be a month. Pleeeease!?" He begged.

"Is Jason okay with me going?" I asked.

We all know that Jason makes the final decisions for the both of them. It's no secret.

"Of course!"

We keep talking even after I finish my grapes when all of a sudden I hear the sliding door open. I froze. I'm the only one that ever goes in the backyard so the fact that it's unlocked is once again my fault.

"Hello? Kenny are you okay?" Danny asked.

I slowly turned around and there's a man in all black sneaking in through the door. My eyes widened and my breaths shortened. He doesn't notice I'm here.

That is...until I dropped the bag of grapes.

The man snapped his head towards me and his hand quickly went towards his waistband. We all know what's there when someone goes for the waistband. So of course I took off running.

"Dad! Diane!" I scream as I run upstairs. I try to run to their room but the door is locked and I think they're asleep.

Old people always go to sleep early! Jeez!

I heard footsteps coming up the stairs all while Danny is screaming in my ear and panicking. I ran down the hall and into the bathroom. I locked the door and started going through the cabinet for something. Anything.

"Kennedy! What is happening!?" Danny yelled.

"There's someone in my house and he has a gun." I whispered.

"Jason! Jason!" Danny yelled and I can hear him running in the background. Danny told Jason basically what I just said and next thing I know, Jason has Danny's phone.
