Nicki watched as the small group of men walked into the building in various dark suits. She didn't know any of them but she assumed they were 'The Canadians' since she'd heard so much about them, and her suspicions were confirmed when her boyfriend stood with a smile and called them over to their table.
"6, how you been," He said to who she assumed was the leader of the pack as he gave him a smile back.
"I've been good and yourself?" He spoke as they shared a dap.
"Couldn't be better. You guys really had me thinking you weren't gonna come," he said and drake chuckled.
"And miss the party?" He asked causing a light laughter. "Nah we couldn't miss your birthday celebration Zoo, what kind of friends would we be,"
"Well I'm glad you could make it. I got a table reserved for you guys just over there, so make yourselves comfortable," Zoo said allowing their conversation to draw to an end as Drake lead his crew over to their table where they got started on the drinks as they got brought to them.
"Who are they?" Nicki asked once Zoo retook his seat next to her.
"That's the Canadians." He said back with no intention of giving her any further explanation.
"Why didn't you introduce me?" She asked. "Would've been nice to be formally introduced since you're working with them a lot more now and I'm a key part of your life." She watched as he clenched and unclenched his jaw before he turned and faced her with a small smile.
"I'll introduce you later. Besides you know how I feel about letting my business partners know how much you mean to me," he said and she avoided rolling her eyes at his way of talking himself out of the situation.
"They seemed more like friends if anything," she challenged.
"Nobody is your friend in this business baby, you'll soon learn that." And at that he engaged in conversation again with the men at his table.
Nicki just focussed her attention over at the tall light skin man as he stood making a toast, laughing with his friends at their table...
The night sailed by smoothly as all the people enjoyed themselves at Zoo's Birthday. He wasn't really a people person but he had been convinced to throw the party and gather some of his friends to celebrate with him.
Nicki watched as the man who'd caught her eye walked out of the building followed by another member of his crew closely behind him. She let it linger for a moment before she decided to follow.
"I'll be back in a minute babe, I'm just going to get some fresh air," she said as she placed a kiss on his cheek and stood.
"You want Pat to come with you? He asked of their bodyguard and she just shook her head with a small smile.
"I'll be alright don't worry," and with that she left the table and made her way outside.
She walked past him as he lit a blunt and went to take a seat on a nearby bench. The atmosphere was calm as she watched the ripples in the water of the lake form as the night wind blew. She was keen to face him and engage in conversation but the added company from his friend was stopping her.
A couple of minutes later she heard footsteps, followed by a door opening and closing. She looked over her shoulder and found he was still there.
"And you are?" He asked before taking another drag from his blunt.
"Zoo said he'd formally introduce us so I think you should wait for then," she said as her focus never faltered from the water.
"Zoo never formally introduces anyone to his girl, but you must be new around here so you wouldn't know that," He said back and she didn't respond. "I'm 6. And you are?"
